Mozart’s Bakery and Piano Cafe, the European bakery, tea room and event hall at 4784 N. High St. in Clintonville, will close at the end of the year. Owners Anand and Doris Saha are retiring after 31 years in business. Columbus Business First reported the news Monday afternoon. The last day will be December 24th.
Mozart’s own Facebook page hinted at it over the weekend. A post on Sunday read: “Today is Anand’s last birthday working at Mozart’s, take a moment to wish him a happy birthday! More news to come soon.”
The Sahas told the Clintonville Spotlight in August that Mozart’s would keep operating at least through the end of 2026. At the time, Anand Saha said he had not decided whether to keep a smaller bakery and coffee shop going inside the building. After 31 years of serving Clintonville and central Ohio, he told the paper, “I am looking forward to visiting the farmers market on Saturdays and being able to make weekend plans.”
The building was previously sold
The closing follows the sale of the building itself. In August, the Sahas agreed to sell 4784 N. High St. to 1831 Management, the group that bought the Worthington Inn in 2025 and brought Wolf’s Ridge Brewing into it. The new owners have said they will keep calling it the Mozart’s Building and are looking for a mix of tenants. Jerry DiPizzo, one of the 1831 partners, told the Spotlight they were looking at “everything from retail to health care and everything in between.”
The building has a long history of its own. It opened in 1930 as the Beechwold Tavern and later held Cord Camera and Azia Oriental Rugs before the Sahas bought it in 2012 and spent a year restoring it.
What happens to booked weddings and parties
As of Monday night, the Mozart’s website was still taking holiday party bookings and listed upcoming weddings, showers and a birthday tea on its events page. Neither the Sahas nor Business First has said what happens to events booked after Dec. 24, and Mozart’s has not posted an official closing announcement of its own, as of now.
31 years, two addresses
Anand and Doris Saha met in Switzerland in 1989. He studied hotel management and she trained as a pastry chef. They moved to Columbus in 1995 and opened the first Mozart’s Bakery and Piano Cafe at 2885 N. High St., then moved to the restored building at 4784 N. High St. in July 2013. Along the way, the bakery says it has raised more than $500,000 for neighborhood nonprofits through events held in its rooms.
For now, the bakery and cafe are open Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with afternoon tea by reservation. Mozart’s is a longtime pick in Columbus Navigator’s guides to afternoon tea and carrot cake, and its marzipan-topped carrot cake is highly recommended to try at least once before Christmas Eve.
