A new outdoor space will be done in the Short North in time for patio weather.
The new patio will be located in between Oddfellows Liquor Bar and Mikey’s Late Night Slice, giving pizza lovers a place to enjoy a bite or a drink.
Mikey Soboro, the owner of Mikey’s Late Night Slice, is aiming to make the area a permanent beer garden by redesigning the patio and doing a major overhaul of the existing space.
The proposed layout for the patio includes replacing the picnic tables with permanent bench seating, a pizza and bar trailer, and some pretty chill vibes. The pièce de résistance of the patio will be a wood-framed and steel-roofed pergola-type structure that will provide shade for the high-top tables.
The area around the pergola will be decorated with concrete planters that will serve as natural barriers between the seating area and the flow of foot traffic within the space.
Sorboro expressed his desire to make the patio a more welcoming place during a recent meeting with the Italian Village Commission.
Although nothing is confirmed, it’s very likely that the commission will approve the project. Once the commission finally gives the go-ahead for Sorboro’s proposal, the city will still need to approve the redesign in order to start construction, which is expected to begin in early May and last for about a month and a half.
The patio will be located between the two popular spots, located at 1030 and 1038 N. High St. in Italian Village.
