Every four years, our calendars give us a little surprise: an extra day tucked neatly at the end of February.
This day, known as Leap Day, happens every Leap Year, and it’s all thanks to the peculiarities of our planet’s journey around the sun. You see, it takes approximately 365.25 days for Earth to complete its orbit.
Rather than having a quarter-day each year, we save up those quarters and add an extra day every four years. This keeps our calendars in sync with Earth’s annual journey and ensures that seasonal and calendar years don’t drift apart. Now, with this extra day in hand, Columbus has found some fantastic ways to celebrate. Let’s leap into what the city has in store!
