From The Muppet Christmas Carol to Spirited, there are many versions of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
We’ve all grown up with the stories of Tiny Tim, Ebenezer Scrooge, and the whole gang, but to experience a Dickens Christmas in person is a unique experience. Back for another holiday season is Dickens of a Christmas at the Ohio Village.
Dickens of a Christmas is a unique and immersive experience that transports visitors back in time. During the holiday season, the village transforms into a Dickens Christmas wonderland, with carolers, hanging lights, and traditional dances.
One of the highlights of the experience is the chance to meet and interact with characters from Charles Dickens’ classic story, A Christmas Carol. From the charming Santa to the crabby Mr. Scrooge, visitors can take photos and engage with the characters as if they were part of the story.
After scanning our tickets for entry and grabbing a map of the village, we decided that our first stop would be the village school. Several village spots host free activities for anyone to participate in, but most of these are geared toward younger visitors. Here, we strung popcorn and cranberries and added our strand to the schoolhouse Christmas tree.
Next, we headed to the Village Church for a warm place to listen to some fantastic holiday music performed by local Columbus musicians. As we wandered in and out of the various shops, we were treated to interactions with Santa, carolers, and other village residents.
Another adorable craft was located in the Pharmacy. Here, we made cute pinecone and greenery sets to take with us! In addition to the volunteers showing you what life was like in a Dickens Christmas Village, local artisans also sell treats, antique jewelry, and beautiful art pieces. These are scattered throughout the village (A sign on the door conveniently tells you if an Artisan is present). Also, make sure to take advantage of the yummy treats at the Emporium! We loved our bag of treats, and a few ounces for $1 is an affordable option!
To take your experience one step further, the Ohio Village also offers a Holiday Brunch or Holiday Dinner. The meal experience is paired with your entrance ticket to the village and is held on the second floor of the Ohio History building.
There are still two full weekends of Dickens of a Christmas left to enjoy. You can choose whether you’d like to visit in the afternoon or the evening. To take advantage of the charming lights on the boardwalk, visit on Saturday, December 9th and 16th, from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm. Sunday is the perfect day for an afternoon visit, with the village open from 1:00 – 5:00 pm.
Overall, Ohio Village’s Dickens of a Christmas is a must-see holiday tradition that offers a unique and immersive way to celebrate the season. With timed tickets required for both days, visitors should plan to purchase tickets in advance to ensure they take advantage of this magical experience.
