Columbus Taco Fest held its 10th edition on June 6 and 7, 2026 at Fortress Obetz, its first year outside downtown Columbus and its first as a 21-and-over event. Admission was free. Organizers have not announced a date for the next festival.

What changed for the 10th edition
The festival left downtown for Fortress Obetz, the stadium and event complex at 2015 Recreation Trail in Obetz. Entry became free after years of general admission tickets. And for the first time nobody under 21 was allowed in, including infants and toddlers, with a government-issued ID checked at the gate and a wristband issued after verification.
“What started as a love for tacos and this city has turned into something we’re incredibly proud of,” said Hugo Albornoz, founder of Columbus Taco Fest.
Why the festival left downtown
The move followed two rough years.
The festival has run since 2018. Fights broke out at it in consecutive years and forced organizers to shut it down early both times. After the 2025 spring edition at Goodale Park, Axios Columbus framed the pattern as a warning about how the city handles event safety across the board.
Fortress Obetz answers that with infrastructure a public park doesn’t have. It’s a purpose-built venue with controlled entry points, which let organizers run a defined perimeter, check IDs at marked gates, and staff the grounds with security and medical support.
What a day at Taco Fest looks like
More than 20 taco trucks worked the 2026 festival, with craft and retail vendors alongside them, dessert options, and Columbus bands playing across both days. Margaritas, canned cocktails, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks are all sold inside.
One tradition did not make the trip. The Puppy Dress-Up Contest, an annual fixture where owners put their dogs in taco-themed costumes, was called off for 2026 because of the change in location. Organizers have said they hope to bring it back.
Getting to Fortress Obetz
Fortress Obetz sits at 2015 Recreation Trail in Obetz, south of downtown Columbus. Organizers direct everyone to marked entrances only and release parking and rideshare details shortly before each festival. The festival goes ahead in wet weather, and organizers post updates to their site and social channels if conditions turn severe.
When the next Columbus Taco Fest happens
No date has been announced. The festival has run a spring edition most years and added fall editions at various points, so a 2027 announcement is the thing to watch for. Updates go up at columbustacofest.com, and the festival’s Know Before You Go page carries the gate rules each year.
There is taco news before then. The same organizers run Columbus Taco Week, a separate promotion where restaurants across Central Ohio put taco specials on their menus, and the 2026 edition runs August 17 through 22.
