Listen up, Columbus. Your Thursday nights just got a whole lot more exciting.
Thanks to the Columbus Museum of Art, you can spend your Thursday evenings grabbing drinks, exploring art exhibits, enjoying a DJ, or even doing yoga. The Columbus Museum of Art is one of my favorite places to spend time in Columbus. It’s inspiring, entertaining, and, frankly, just a freaking awesome time.
The museum is a fun spot any day of the week. You can check out their incredible blacklight exhibition, Blacklight Magic. The works featured delve into the role that blacklight posters played in the counterculture movement of the 1960s and 1970s. The posters address a myriad of issues, including environmental awareness, anti-war activism, women’s reproductive rights, and the Black Power movement.
You can also support local artists by popping into the annual Greater Columbus exhibition. Several Central Ohio artists, who are working both here and abroad, were selected for the individual arts fellowship. The art displayed comes in a variety of mediums and gives the community the chance to see how artists from our area are contributing to the arts.
As I said, it’s the place to be any day of the week. But if I had to pick just one day to go to the museum, it would be Thursday. Every Thursday Night at CMA, visitors are invited to the museum from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for an evening of artistic expression. What exactly can you expect from this trip to the museum? Let me enlighten you.
You can grab drinks & dinner in the Garden & Schokko Café
On the third Thursday of the month, themed pop-up dinners are available to attend. The next one in the rotation is on August 15. They’ll be serving up Avant-Garde inspired food and black tie themed cocktails from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Registration isn’t required.
Get relaxed with Yoga @ CMA
At 6 p.m., Replenish hosts a yoga session. It’s the perfect place to unwind and let your creativity flow. It’s $5 and all you need to do is show up with your yoga mat.
Indulge your wanderlust
Every Thursday, the museum offers a special guided tour at 6:30 p.m. Special exhibition admission is only $5 on Thursday, so it’s a great way to explore the museum on a budget. Here I come, Blacklight Magic!
Let your inner artist out
Want to create your own art while you enjoy a craft beer and some live music? You totally can. On Think Like An Artist Thursdays, aka the first Thursday of every month, you can play, make art, rock out, and sip on some tasty drinks.
Level up your gift-giving skills
The Museum Store is open until 9 on Thursdays. You can buy creative gifts, jewelry, and other locally made goods, all of which come with free gift wrapping.
Basically, what I’m trying to tell you is that you most definitely have plans this Thursday, and those plans are at the Columbus Museum of Art. For more information about Thursday Nights at CMA, you can visit their website here.
