This Heisman-Winning Buckeye Is Heading To Bowling Green

Bowling Green State University just made a powerful decision for its football team.

Eddie George, the former Heisman Trophy winner and all-around Ohio legend, is heading back to the Buckeye State as BGSU’s new head football coach.

If you’re an Ohio State fan, you know Eddie George is kind of a big deal. Back in 1995, he tore up the field for the Buckeyes, winning the Heisman after rushing for nearly 2,000 yards.

He then went on to crush it in the NFL, earning Rookie of the Year honors, four Pro Bowl appearances, and even a Super Bowl run with the Tennessee Titans. Now, he’s swapping his playbook for a clipboard in Bowling Green.

George spent the past four years coaching Tennessee State, where he turned things around in a big way. In 2024, he led the team to a 9-3 record and a share of the conference championship, snagging Big South-OVC Coach of the Year along the way. Now he’s ready to bring that winning energy to the Falcons.

BGSU’s Vice President for Athletics Strategy, Derek van der Merwe, called George a “transformative leader,” which honestly tracks. George has been a force both on and off the field, with a resume that includes business ventures, acting gigs (yes, he was on NCIS: Los Angeles), and even a stint on Broadway. Basically, the man doesn’t miss.

“I’m thrilled to be back in Ohio,” George said. “I’m excited to immerse myself in the community and help build this program to greatness.” Considering his track record, Falcons fans have every reason to get pumped.

The Eddie George era at BGSU is officially underway, and with his mix of grit, leadership, and undeniable Ohio pride, it’s safe to say the Falcons just scored big. We’ll be watching to see what kind of magic he brings to the field.
