A flight from Columbus to Atlanta ended with a major scare Sunday after a passenger allegedly made a bomb threat as the plane was arriving at the gate.
Frontier Airlines Flight 2539 had already landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport just after 5 p.m. when the situation unfolded. According to the airline, the threat was made while the aircraft was taxiing, prompting officials to immediately pull the plane away from the terminal as a precaution.
Instead of heading to the gate, the aircraft was moved to a remote area of the airport, where law enforcement could safely assess the situation.
Passengers were eventually escorted off the plane using airstairs and transported by bus back to the terminal. No injuries were reported, but the incident brought a heavy law enforcement presence to the scene.
The FBI’s Atlanta field office responded alongside local police, and investigators later determined the threat was not credible.
Flight data shows the plane departed John Glenn Columbus International Airport mid-afternoon and arrived in Atlanta just before the incident occurred.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and federal prosecutors will review the case to determine whether charges are warranted. Officials have not yet said if the passenger involved has been taken into custody.
