Another Easton restaurant has closed, and this one is part of a much bigger shakeup for a national restaurant chain.
True Food Kitchen has closed its Easton Town Center location, the restaurant’s only Ohio location. The restaurant’s final day of service was Oct. 4, according to the company, following its decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The Easton restaurant opened in October 2020, bringing True Food Kitchen’s health-focused menu to Columbus for the first time. The restaurant was known for its seasonal dishes, extensive vegetarian and vegan options, weekend brunch, and a menu built around Dr. Andrew Weil’s anti-inflammatory food philosophy.
The company announced its bankruptcy filing Oct. 5, describing it as a voluntary restructuring intended to strengthen the business and simplify its operations. As part of that process, True Food Kitchen closed 12 restaurants nationwide, while 34 other locations across 14 states remain open.
The company says it isn’t going out of business.
Its remaining restaurants are continuing to operate, and True Food Kitchen says customers can still make reservations, order delivery, and use gift cards at its open locations.
The Chapter 11 process will also include a court-supervised search for a new owner or long-term partner for the restaurant company. True Food Kitchen has secured a commitment for approximately $20 million in debtor-in-possession financing, subject to court approval, which the company says will help fund operations during the restructuring and sale process.
True Food Kitchen launched in Phoenix in 2008 and was co-founded by integrative medicine doctor Andrew Weil and restaurateur Sam Fox. The concept built its reputation around food that was intended to be both health-conscious and restaurant-worthy, with dishes ranging from grain bowls and salads to burgers, pizzas, and cocktails.
The Columbus location sat on Worth Avenue in Easton’s New District, with a large patio and a menu designed to accommodate a range of diets. Its closure leaves the Columbus area without a True Food Kitchen, at least for now.
