Hilliard’s New Pickleball Kingdom Is Almost Ready To Serve

Pickleball players around Columbus have been waiting a while for this one, and Pickleball Kingdom Hilliard is finally getting close to a grand opening.

The national indoor pickleball chain is opening its first Columbus-area location at 4500 Britton Parkway in Hilliard, bringing 15 professional-grade indoor courts to a roughly 36,000-square-foot facility. The club was originally targeting an early 2026 opening, but construction delays have pushed that timeline back.

The latest update from Pickleball Kingdom Hilliard came in July, when the club showed off its new exterior sign and said it was anticipating a late-August opening. More recently, though, owner Steve Niehoff said the project isn’t quite ready to make that deadline.

In an update shared by the Hilliard location, Niehoff said the building still needs several essential systems completed before the interior build-out can continue. While the building may look finished from the outside, the club isn’t ready to put a firm opening date on the calendar just yet.

Which is probably not the answer anyone who’s been waiting for a new place to play wanted to hear, but at least the courts are getting closer.

Once it does open, Pickleball Kingdom Hilliard is expected to be a pretty substantial addition to Central Ohio’s pickleball scene.

The facility will have 15 indoor courts, all designed for year-round play. The courts are climate-controlled and use surfaces intended to provide an outdoor-style playing experience without having to worry about Ohio weather.

And you won’t need to already be a pickleball expert to use the place. The club plans to offer free daily Pickleball 101 lessons for beginners, along with private coaching and group clinics for players who want to improve their game.

For more experienced players, there will be organized open play, leagues, tournaments and round robins, with programming divided by skill level. There will also be youth programs, including clinics and camps.

Basically, whether your pickleball experience currently consists of playing once at a family cookout or you’ve already developed strong opinions about your third-shot drop, there should be something for you.

Pickleball Kingdom is also planning a pro shop where players can shop for equipment and try out paddles before buying them.

The facility will have locker rooms and showers, too, which should make it a little easier to squeeze in a game before or after work.

There’s also a large community and event space that can be used for private gatherings, corporate events, birthday parties, fundraisers and other group outings.

And for anyone (like myself) who has ever watched a pickleball game and thought, “I have no idea what’s happening right now,” the facility is leaning pretty heavily into making the sport accessible to beginners.

The club’s free introductory lessons are designed to teach the basics, while its coaching and clinics will give more experienced players a chance to work on things like serving, volleys, footwork and match strategy.

So when will it finally open? That’s the part that’s still up in the air.

The original announcement in July 2025 called for an early 2026 opening. That obviously didn’t happen, and the club later moved toward a late-August target.

As of the latest update, though, Pickleball Kingdom Hilliard has not announced a new firm opening date. The official website currently lists the club as “Coming Soon.”

For now, prospective players can follow Pickleball Kingdom Hilliard for updates as construction continues. Once the doors finally open, Central Ohio pickleball players will have 15 new indoor courts to put to use, which should make the wait a little easier to swallow.
