Three Ohio Chefs Named James Beard Award Finalists For 2026

Ohio’s culinary scene is getting some well-deserved national attention. Three standout chefs from across the state have been named finalists for the 2026 James Beard Awards, one of the most prestigious honors in the restaurant industry.

Presented by the James Beard Foundation, the annual awards celebrate excellence, leadership, and innovation in independent restaurants and kitchens across the country. Winners will be announced on June 15 at a ceremony in Chicago.

This year, Ohio is well represented in the Best Chef: Great Lakes category, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

Vinnie Cimino, Cordelia (Cleveland) Cleveland chef Vinnie Cimino earned a finalist spot for his work at Cordelia, a restaurant known for its thoughtful take on comfort food. With a focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, Cimino’s “modern Grandma” approach has helped put Cordelia on the map as one of the Midwest’s most exciting dining destinations.

Sarah Dworak, Sudova (Cincinnati) Chef and owner Sarah Dworak is being recognized for Sudova, her Cincinnati restaurant inspired by Eastern European flavors and her Ukrainian heritage. The menu blends tradition and creativity, offering a deeply personal dining experience that has resonated with guests and critics alike.

Jeffery Harris, Nolia (Cincinnati) At Nolia, chef Jeffery Harris brings the flavors of New Orleans to Cincinnati. His menu leans into Southern cooking traditions, with dishes that highlight bold flavors, technique, and a strong sense of place rooted in his upbringing.

While Columbus doesn’t have a finalist this year, the city was still part of the conversation.

Dan Riesenberger, owner of Dan the Baker, was named a semifinalist in the Outstanding Bakery category earlier this year.

Whether or not they bring home the win, this year’s finalists are continuing a growing tradition of Ohio chefs earning national recognition. It’s a reminder that some of the country’s most exciting food isn’t just on the coasts, it’s happening right here at home.
