This Short North Bookshop Is Moving And You’re Invited to Help

There are few places in Columbus where it’s this easy to accidentally spend an entire afternoon, and Prologue Bookshop is a great spot to do just that. You walk in, you start browsing, and suddenly you’re texting someone to say you’ll be “just a little late.”

The beloved Short North shop is moving one block south, from 841 N. High St. to 787 N. High St., into a space that’s twice the size of its current home. More shelves, a dedicated event space with a stage, an upstairs reading area where time will probably stop mattering, and just generally more room to do what Prologue does best: make you want to stay.

The grand opening is happening on Thursday, April 9, and the way they’re kicking things off is very them.

At 5 p.m., the community is invited to form a human book chain, passing the final books from the old location to the new one, hand to hand down High Street.

Once the last book makes the journey, the doors open for a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. with snacks, drinks, and your first look at what’s about to become your new favorite place to lose track of time.

Owner Dan Brewster says the growth comes down to the people who have supported the shop since the beginning.

“We’re lucky to have a really great community around the store,” Brewster said. “We’ve always wanted to have a space that was large enough to showcase all the wonderful books that our customers love.”

Beyond the extra shelves, the new space will also make room for more author talks and an improved book club experience, things Prologue has been pulling off in a much smaller footprint than you’d expect.

“We feel that this is one of the best areas for independent retail in the city,” Brewster said. “We have a lot of great neighbors, and our community supports us through events we do, coming to book clubs, and just hanging out at the store. We’re happy to stick around.”

The timing works out perfectly too, landing just a couple of weeks before Indie Bookstore Day on April 25. So you’ll have a brand new space to explore, right in time for one of the best days of the year.
