Trolls have come to Ohio.
Bo, Bodil, and Bibbi have arrived in Dayton at Aullwood Audubon. The massive sculptures are the work of Danish artist Thomas Dambo.
The trolls of “The Troll That Hatched an Egg” were the 83rd, 84th, and 85th that Dambo built in the United States and Puerto Rico. Thomas Dambo is from Copenhagen, Denmark and has been creating giant trolls around the world for over 14 years. Dambo focuses on using recycled materials for his art and the trolls at Aullwood are no exception: old pallet wood, sticks, and logs.
“Everything I make I try to make out of things laying around. This way I can build really big things with a very small footprint or impact,” says Dambo.
The story of the trolls, “The Troll That Hatched an Egg,” is posted in the lobby of the nature center and farm discovery center, but you can also read it here. Viewing the trolls is included in admission to Aullwood Audubon, which costs $13 for adults, $9 for kids 4-12, $11 for seniors, active military, and veterans, and free for children 3 and under.
To view all three trolls, you should plan on walking about 3 miles round trip. The nest portion of the exhibit was taken down in 2025 after it reached the end of its lifespan, but Bo, Bodil, and Bibbi aren’t going anywhere for now. When visiting, guests are asked to stay on trails, avoid collecting anything from the property, and stay off the sculptures. Climbing is out, but hugs are officially encouraged.
Aullwood Audubon is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and is closed Monday and Tuesday. The nature center is located at 1000 Aullwood Road, Dayton, OH 45414. For more info about visiting the trolls, please click here.
