This Columbus Spot Was So Good, Will Poulter Brought It To His Movie Set

When British actor Will Poulter came to Ohio to film the upcoming movie Union County, he didn’t just immerse himself in the local scenery—he also got a serious taste of what Columbus has to offer.

And apparently, that taste came with a side of Somali hot sauce.

Back in the spring, Poulter popped into North Market and discovered Hoyo’s Kitchen, the beloved fast-casual spot known for serving up bold, flavor-packed Somali dishes. He loved it so much that he took to Instagram to rave about the meal—and the love didn’t stop there.

In a recent episode of the Table Manners podcast, Poulter shared that on his last day of filming Union County, he had Hoyo’s cater the whole set. That’s right—he made sure his cast and crew got to experience the exact food that blew him away during his time in Columbus.

Hoyo’s (which means “mother” in Somali) has been serving the city since 2014, bringing traditional Somali flavors to a wider audience in a welcoming, modern way. Their second location at North Market Downtown opened in 2019, and it’s quickly become a go-to spot for anyone craving warm spices, perfectly grilled meats, and that signature Somali rice.

With a national spotlight from one of Hollywood’s most exciting rising stars, it’s safe to say Hoyo’s just got the recognition they’ve always deserved.

You can check out the full podcast episode on Spotify and Apple. You can eat Hoyo’s whenever you want, by stopping by the North Market, located at 59 Spruce Street in Downtown Columbus.
