Your local library is about to get a lot more… galactic.
The Columbus Metropolitan Library is teaming up with the 501st Legion Ohio Garrison to host a full-on Star Wars celebration at the Main Library on May 2. And before you ask, yes, there will be droids.
Running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event transforms the library into something straight out of a galaxy far, far away. We’re talking a TIE fighter cockpit, a swoop bike, a droid depot, and even a Jawa-themed setup complete with blue milk.
There will also be plenty of costumed characters roaming around, which means photo ops are basically guaranteed.
The event has become one of the city’s favorite free fandom gatherings. This is its fourth year, and it keeps getting bigger.
If you want to get hands-on, there’s a build-your-own lightsaber activity in the morning while supplies last. Younger kids can swing by for a Star Wars-themed storytime at 11 a.m., and trivia kicks off later in the afternoon for anyone ready to prove they actually paid attention to the movies.
There’s even a display of early Star Wars script drafts, which is a pretty cool deep cut for anyone who likes a little behind-the-scenes history with their fandom.
The 501st Legion, the group helping bring this all to life, is a global organization of Star Wars costumers known for their community work. Locally, their members regularly show up at hospitals, schools, and events like this one to make things a little more fun.
And that’s really the vibe here. You don’t have to be a hardcore fan to enjoy it. You just have to be willing to walk into a library and suddenly find yourself in a galaxy far, far away. The Columbus Main Library is located at 96 S Grant Ave. For more info, or to see what else the Library has on offer, head over to columbuslibrary.org.
