Mount Carmel West was torn down starting in 2019.
The hospital, which served the west side Franklinton community for a century, closed its inpatient campus in 2019 and relocated to Grove City.
The hospital group built a 210-bed facility in Grove City, which opened in April 2019. The remaining services at Mount Carmel West were moved and demolition of the old facility began that June.
According to the hospital, around 50% of the patients that come to Mount Carmel West are from Grove City, so they see this move less as leaving an area that needs them and more as a move towards their client base.
Mount Carmel kept a presence in Franklinton, expanding the College of Nursing and opening a new ER in the former Surgery Center in 2019. That emergency department closed on August 22, 2026. It was replaced by the Mount Carmel Franklinton Care Center, a primary care office at 775 W. Broad St. that does not handle emergencies.
According to a report by The Dispatch, most residents in Franklinton are supportive of the move. But some are worried that the local community only having access to emergency care, instead of the variety they are used to now, could have a negative impact.
