Otter Yoga Is The Cutest Fitness Activity You Can Book In Ohio

Some fitness classes promise relaxation. Others promise a workout. Otter yoga in Shelby promises neither, and that’s exactly why people are driving in from all over the country to try it.

Westmeister Farm’s resident otters, Harbor and Cove, roam freely during sessions, turning a simple slow-flow class into a surprisingly joyful mix of movement, animal antics, and pure serotonin.

The classes are run in partnership with Meta Soul Yoga and instructor Trish Sexstella, who originally planned it as a one-off themed session. It didn’t stay that way for long. Word got out, people showed up, and Trish quickly realized she was onto something. She says many participants try yoga for the first time at these sessions and end up sticking with it afterward. The otters help lower the intimidation factor and add a little bit of joy to the experience.

Harbor and Cove were raised on the farm and are very used to people, but they are also extremely curious. Guests are asked to remove jewelry, hair clips, and anything that could catch an otter’s attention. Trish calls them “little treasure goblins” and warns that they will unzip pockets, explore backpacks, and check out anything shiny. Each class also includes a trained handler to make sure things stay safe for both the otters and the humans.

The class itself is intentionally relaxed.

Participants are welcome to follow along with the flow or simply sit and interact with the otters. Cove is known for curling up to nap, and Harbor tends to be the explorer, so every session plays out a little differently. According to Trish, the animals enjoy the stimulation and sometimes mimic poses of their own.

Visitors have traveled from across the country to take part, and some have returned multiple times. Trish says the best part is watching people light up when Harbor and Cove decide to say hello. For a couple hours, it becomes a space where everyone seems to forget about everything else.

Otter yoga takes a break during the winter, but sessions will return in March 2026 at Westmeister Farm.

Meta Soul Yoga posts available dates about one or two months in advance, and classes tend to sell out quickly. Gift cards are available, although they do not reserve a specific date.

You can find updates and upcoming session info at Meta Soul Yoga’s website, on their social channels, or by visiting the farm’s website.
