Baseball fans, history buffs, and anyone who loves a bit of old-fashioned fun, listen up!
The Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival is making its grand return on August 31 and September 1, 2024, and it’s shaping up to be a weekend full of classic entertainment, food, and—of course—plenty of baseball! This isn’t just any baseball tournament, though. It’s a trip back in time to when the game was a bit different, a bit simpler, and a whole lot of fun.
Free to Watch, Priceless Memories
One of the best parts of the Ohio Cup is that it’s completely free to watch! Whether you’re a die-hard baseball fan or just looking for a fun family outing, you can enjoy the games without spending a dime. Just make sure to bring your lawn chairs or camp chairs so you can settle in comfortably on the 17th Avenue fields, where all the action will take place.
But if you’re in the mood to explore even more history, the Ohio History Center museum is right there, ready to welcome you with open doors (and plenty of fascinating exhibits). Admission to the museum is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $10 for children aged 4-12, and free for the little ones under 3. If you’re an Ohio History Connection Member, you’re in luck—museum admission is free for you, too!
Vintage Baseball at Its Best
The Ohio Cup isn’t just another baseball tournament; it’s one of the nation’s largest vintage base ball festivals. That’s right—baseball with an extra dash of nostalgia! Picture teams decked out in vintage uniforms, swinging wooden bats, and catching with leather gloves that are worlds away from today’s high-tech gear. It’s a chance to see the game as it was played in the 19th century, with all the quirks and charm that come with it.
This year, all the games will be played on the 17th Avenue fields starting bright and early at 9 a.m. each day, with the final game of the day kicking off at 4 p.m. Each game lasts about an hour, so there’s plenty of time to catch multiple matches and soak up the vintage vibes.
Fun for the Whole Family
The Ohio Cup isn’t just about watching baseball—it’s about getting in on the action, too! Kids will love the chance to hit and play catch with players from the Ohio Village Muffins, one of the participating teams. Plus, with food trucks on-site and various activities and crafts, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained between games.
Speaking of the Muffins, if you find yourself caught up in the spirit of the game and want to join the fun, you can even learn how to become a player or volunteer. The Ohio Village Muffins and the women’s team, the Ohio Village Diamonds, are always looking for enthusiastic new members. Who knows? Next year, you could be out on the field, playing in vintage style!
A Historic Weekend Awaits
