Marx Bagels Is Taking Over Over This Iconic Columbus Bagel Spot

Columbus bagel fans, we’ve got some big news! Marx Bagels, the popular Cincinnati-based bagel spot, is taking over the Block’s Hot Bagels location at 6115 McNaughten Road. And it’s more than just a change of ownership — it’s a passing of the torch that brings a beloved legacy full circle.

Block’s Bagels, founded by Hal Block in 1967, was a staple in Columbus for over 50 years, known for its fresh, kosher bagels. After Hal’s passing in January, the family made the tough decision to close Block’s for good in early March, marking the end of an era for bagel lovers in Central Ohio.

Now, the story continues with Marx Bagels.

John Marx, who originally grew the brand in Cincinnati, sold the business in 2019. But now, the brand is back in the hands of Y.Y. Davis, who’s excited to continue Hal’s legacy while honoring the Block family’s history. Marx Bagels plans to open in the McNaughten Road location in early April 2025.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the Block family for making this transition as smooth as possible,” Davis said. “Hal Block was a remarkable man, and we’re excited to continue his tradition of serving the Columbus community with great kosher bagels.”

Jason Block, Hal’s grandson, shared his excitement as well.

“It was important to us that whoever carried this legacy forward shared our values of integrity and quality, and YY and his team are the perfect fit,” said Block.

So, while we’ll miss Block’s, we’re looking forward to the next chapter with Marx Bagels. Get ready for the same great bagels, familiar faces, and a new chapter for the Columbus bagel scene.
