If you’ve ever wanted to run past some of the Midwest’s most jaw-dropping scenery, the Hocking Hills Trail Run is calling your name—and this year’s race is better than ever.
The 47th annual event, happening September 20, 2025, has an all-new course that’s almost entirely on trails, ditching most of the roadside miles in favor of more waterfalls, caves, towering cliffs, and forested paths. It’s safer, prettier, and a little more challenging—exactly what trail runners love.

Runners (and walkers) can choose from 5K, 10K, 20K, 40K, or 60K distances, with registration starting at $25 and going up to $45 depending on the length. Sign up in advance at ExploreHockingHills.com or on race day for an extra $10. All participants get a hand-crafted medallion made by local high school art students, plus a t-shirt—though day-of registrants might not snag their preferred size.
The race kicks off with a staggered start at 7 a.m. for the 60K, and everyone must be on the course by 11 a.m. to qualify for timing and awards. The top three male and female finishers in each age group earn ribbons, and the fastest overall runners in each race take home prizes. You can even bring a leashed pet along for the adventure.

Beyond the race itself, the Hocking Hills region is worth the trip alone—just an hour southeast of Columbus, it’s packed with hiking trails, dramatic rock formations, cozy cabins, and enough natural beauty to make you forget your phone exists. Whether you’re there to set a PR or just soak in the scenery, this year’s trail run promises to be unforgettable.
