A New Fine Art Photography Gallery Is Opening Inside A Historic Olde Towne East Mansion

A historic home on East Broad Street is about to become one of Columbus’ most intriguing new art destinations.

Ilkaa’s Fine Art Gallery & Atelier will officially open its doors on Saturday, May 16, with a public grand opening celebration from 3 to 6 p.m. The gallery is located at 785 E. Broad Street inside the Joseph-Cherrington House, a stately property in Olde Towne East just east of the Columbus Museum of Art.

Founded in 2023 by curator Ilkaa Amalia and photographer Millie Franz, the gallery began on East Main Street before finding a permanent home in the historic mansion. The move allowed the founders to shape a space that feels personal and intentional, while still honoring the building’s original character. Renovations were completed in collaboration with Matluc Services.

Inside, visitors can expect a quiet, carefully designed environment focused entirely on fine art photography.

The gallery will showcase museum-quality work, including large- and medium-format film photography, as well as limited editions and one-of-a-kind pieces.

“This gallery is about creating a deeper encounter with the work,” said co-founder and resident photographer Millie Franz. “We wanted a space where people can slow down and really spend time with photography.”

The gallery represents a curated group of internationally recognized photographers, including Kim Weston, Roman Loranc, Cristina Mittermeier, Mark Arbeit, Azita Gandjei, and Zach Weston.

One highlight is the gallery’s “From the Archive” collection, which features rare works connected to the Weston family legacy, a photographic lineage that traces back to Edward Weston.

The May 16 opening event is free and open to the public.

Guests can explore the new space, view the inaugural collection, and get a first look at how the historic home has been transformed into a gallery setting. Parking will be available behind the building. For more details or to RSVP, visit ilkaasfineart.com.

Ilkaa’s Fine Art Gallery & Atelier aims to offer something a little different for Columbus’ art scene, with an emphasis on slowing down and spending time with the work on view.
