Columbus travelers, your next West Coast getaway just got a whole lot easier.
A new daily nonstop flight from John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has officially taken off, giving Central Ohio passengers a direct line to one of the country’s most in-demand destinations.
The new route comes courtesy of United Airlines and is already up and running, offering daily service between Columbus and Los Angeles. For anyone who’s ever dealt with a layover on the way to the West Coast, this is a pretty big win.
“This route is a direct response to the needs of our community and the strong demand we continue to see,” said Columbus Regional Airport Authority President and CEO Daren Griffin in a statement announcing the launch. “We’re thrilled to welcome this new nonstop service.”
The demand makes sense. Los Angeles is a major hub for international travel, which means this new flight opens up even more convenient connections for travelers heading across the globe. According to the airline, the new route will make it easier for passengers to access both Los Angeles and a wide range of international destinations beyond LAX.
The inaugural flight got pretty fancy.
Passengers were treated to a full-on celebration, complete with a festive gate party and a classic water cannon salute as the plane departed. Not a bad way to kick off your trip. (Yes, I am resisting a Miley Cyrus “Party in the USA” pun right now.)
This new nonstop to LAX is just one of several additions coming to John Glenn Columbus International Airport in 2026. In total, nine new flights have been announced for the year, and United is also planning to double its service from Columbus to San Francisco this summer.
