Butch Bando’s Fantasy Of Lights Returns For Its 26th Season

One of Central Ohio’s most beloved holiday traditions is back and brighter than ever.

Butch Bando’s Fantasy of Lights is kicking off its 26th season as the region’s original, locally owned, family-operated drive-through light show. The Bando family continues to make this event about more than just twinkling lights. It is a celebration of family, community, and giving back.

A Season Full of Heart and Holiday Magic

This year, the Bandos are inviting guests to join them for some extra special moments.

On November 15 at 5 p.m., the family will announce the adoption of their son, who will have his own light display featured at the show’s exit. The Bandos are partnering with Alicia’s Closet, a local nonprofit that supports children in foster care, adoption, and reunification programs, to collect donations for kids in need. The family hopes their story and their partnership inspire others to open their hearts and homes.

A few days later, on November 17 at 5:30 p.m., the Bandos will host a touching flag-lighting ceremony. A local child whose father is an active-duty Air Force member will help illuminate the show’s newly restored American flag display. The event honors Children of Valor (formerly SEALKIDS), a longtime Fantasy of Lights beneficiary that provides free tutoring for military-connected kids through its Valor Tutoring program. The ceremony will include the National Anthem and a chance to thank those who serve.

Before the official opening, a local A Kid Again family will visit the show on November 14 to share how Fantasy of Lights has brightened their holidays.

Then on November 20, the show officially opens with A Kid Again Night, when families involved with the nonprofit can attend for free and 100% of that night’s proceeds go back to the organization. Expect appearances from the Berlin Township Fire Department, Delaware EMS, and even Stinger from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The light show will run nightly from November 21 through January 4, with hours from 5:30–9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5:30–10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Visitors can enjoy brand-new displays, sparkling tunnels, and even a tribute to Johnny Hockey and his family, all from the comfort of their cars.

How the Bandos Keep the Spirit of Giving Alive

Fantasy of Lights has always been about spreading joy, and that spirit shines through its ongoing charity partnerships.

Proceeds from the show support Recreation Unlimited, A Kid Again, Children of Valor, Alicia’s Closet, and Steps for Sarcoma.

Visitors can also help by bringing unwrapped toys, hats, and coats for donation. Mrs. Claus will be collecting letters to Santa and donations on select dates:

  • November 28–30
  • December 5–7, 12–14, and 19–23
  • Last year, the community donated more than 900 pounds of items for local families, and the Bandos hope to top that this season.

More Ways to Celebrate (and Save)

Military Appreciation Week runs December 15–19, offering free admission for active-duty service members and their spouses, and $10 admission for veterans with valid ID.

The Bandos are also spotlighting local creativity this year. Students from the Delaware Area Career Center’s Digital Design program created the official Fantasy of Lights radio station, giving them real-world experience while spreading holiday cheer.
