Celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day With A Free Community Meal In Columbus

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is about celebrating Native communities, culture, and history, and the Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio is marking the occasion with a meal for the community.

The Columbus-based organization, known as NAICCO, is hosting a free Wopila (thank you) meal on Monday, Oct. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at its headquarters at 67 E. Innis Ave. The event is open to the public, so everyone is welcome to stop by.

“To celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day this year, we want to recognize everyone who has lifted up NAICCO over the years,” the organization shared on Facebook. “In doing so, we want to share a wopila meal with as many people as possible to express our gratitude for all the love and support that has been extended our way on countless occasions.”

The menu includes mini NDN tacos, buffalo green chile stew, chicken and wild rice soup, and fry bread. The meal is a way for NAICCO to thank the community for its support over the years while celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day together.

Founded in 1975, NAICCO works to support Native American communities in Central Ohio through cultural preservation, education, wellness, and community programming.

If you’re looking for a way to mark Indigenous Peoples’ Day locally, this is an opportunity to share a meal, support an Indigenous-led organization, and celebrate the Native communities that continue to shape our region.
