After saying goodbye to Rishi Sushi Kitchen & Bar earlier this year, fans have been wondering what would come next. Now, the wait is over.
The team behind the longtime downtown favorite is getting ready to open SAGE, a new restaurant that promises elevated Asian-inspired cuisine alongside live music, art and community events.
SAGE is coming to 114 N. Third St., the former home of Rishi Sushi, and is expected to open later this summer.
The new concept comes from Rishi founder Sudhir Dubey and chef David Kim, who first opened Rishi in 2014. When the restaurant closed in January, the pair hinted that it wasn’t the end, just the beginning of something new.
The menu will feature elevated sushi and other Asian-inspired dishes, but food is only part of the vision. The restaurant plans to host a rotating lineup of live musicians, local artist showcases, exhibitions, DJ nights, culinary pop-ups, cocktail and wine events, chef tasting dinners, and private celebrations.
In an Instagram announcement revealing the new concept, the team summed it up simply: “Act 2 is happening.”
The post also announced that SAGE is hiring for a wide variety of positions, including servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, DJs, musicians, artists, and more, suggesting the restaurant’s entertainment programming will play a major role in the overall experience.
According to the restaurant’s website, SAGE was born out of a shared vision to create more than just a place to eat.
“After closing Rishi Sushi, owner Sudhir Dubey was looking to the future. He had an idea to create a space to bring people together; to deliver a new type of restaurant experience,” the website explains. “A conversation with chef David Kim, who had a similar idea, sealed the deal.”
An exact opening date hasn’t been announced yet, but SAGE is expected to welcome its first guests sometime this summer.
