One of Columbus’ most unique outdoor attractions is temporarily out of commission.
Metro Parks officials announced that the park’s outdoor climbing wall is currently closed for repairs, with no reopening date in sight.
“Our climbing wall is closed for repairs. The repair timeline is currently unknown but we’ll post when it’s open!” the park shared in a recent social media update.
The 35-foot-tall climbing wall has been a standout feature of Scioto Audubon Metro Park since it opened in 2009. Billed as the largest free climbing wall in the Midwest, the wall features multiple routes and auto-belay systems that allow climbers to scale it without a partner.
Those systems require regular maintenance, and park officials have not yet shared details about the repairs or how long the closure could last.
While the closure is a disappointment for local climbers, there are still a few ways to get your climbing fix around Columbus.
For those who want to stay outdoors, Quarry Trails Metro Park offers free climbing on real rock. The park’s designated climbing area gives visitors a chance to test their skills on natural stone, making it one of the most unique climbing experiences in Central Ohio.
If indoor climbing is more your style, Columbus has several dedicated facilities. Vertical Adventures, one of the region’s longest-running climbing gyms, offers rope climbing, bouldering, and classes for all skill levels. Bouldering-focused climbers can check out Bloc Garten or Chambers Purely Boulders, both of which offer extensive routesetting and welcoming spaces for beginners and experienced climbers alike.
