Watch The Oscars On The Big Screen At Gateway Film Center’s Annual Awards Gala

Awards season is going big in Columbus this year.

Gateway Film Center will host its 2026 Awards Gala on Sunday, March 15, alongside the live broadcast of the 98th Academy Awards.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a cocktail hour featuring elevated hors d’oeuvres, themed drinks, and red carpet photo ops. At 6:15 p.m., the 2026 Center Original Awards will spotlight local organizations and individuals who have made a meaningful impact on film culture in Columbus.

The program will also include a tribute to Gateway Film Foundation founder Christopher Hamel.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate with Chris Hamel this year,” said Gateway Film Foundation CEO, Charly Bauer. “We hope you’ll join us in making this our best event ever.”

Hamel stepped down last October after more than 17 years at the helm. During his tenure, Gateway Film Center grew into one of the country’s most respected independent cinemas, earning a reputation for bold programming, creative collaborations, and a deep connection to the Columbus community.

“The Film Center is more than a theater. It’s a gathering place for discovery, storytelling and connection,” Bauer said last fall, when he took over as CEO. “Chris Hamel did remarkable work here, and it’s an honor to accept the torch from him. I look forward to working with the staff, board, and community to carry this important mission forward.”

The gala serves as the Film Center’s largest annual fundraiser, supporting another year of curated independent, international, documentary, and locally made films in Central Ohio.

Tickets are $95 for individuals and $65 for myGFC members, and include parking validation, hors d’oeuvres, and two drink tickets. Located at 1550 North High Street, Gateway Film Center has earned a reputation as one of the city’s top spots for art house and specialty films.

The gala brings together Columbus’ arts community for a night that celebrates both Hollywood’s biggest moments and the local theater that keeps independent film thriving year-round.
