I’m a big fan of outdoor movies, but I’ve got to be honest. Outdoor movies in the summer can be brutal these days. It was a very hot summer, even after sunset, and sweating it out didn’t always sound like a good time.
But for those of us who don’t thrive at 85 degrees, I’ve got fantastic news. Metro Parks is running a fall movie series taking place at three different parks over the next couple of months!
Taking place at Highbanks Metro Park, Glacier Ridge Metro Park, and Homestead Metro Park, visitors are invited to screenings of Shrek 2, A Bug’s Life, and Hocus Pocus. All you need to bring is yourself and a your lawn chairs or blankets.
The movies all start at dusk and they’re all free to attend.
First up is Shrek 2. The screening will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on September 27. It’s part of Highbanks’ “Welcome to Fall” event, which is kind of a big deal. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., visitors can enjoy hayrides, inflatables, campfires (with marshmallows!), archery, and more. Activities will start to wind down as the movie starts.
Next up is A Bug’s Life on October 3. This film will be shown at Glacier Ridge Metro Park, but sadly there won’t be a fall festival beforehand.
The outdoor movie series will wrap up on October 25 at Homestead Metro Park with one of my personal favorite Halloween flicks, Hocus Pocus.
It’s the perfect way to kick off fall with your friends and family. You can see all the details about each event below. Happy Fall, y’all!
