OhioLUG is a group of adults based in Ohio that have “(re)discovered the joy of building creations out of the popular LEGO® brand building blocks” and their talents are on full display at the library.

A Celebration of Reading

The timing of this fantastic display is no coincidence. It’s here to celebrate the start of the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s (CML) Summer Reading Challenge, kicking off on June 1st. This annual program is designed to keep young readers engaged and prevent the dreaded “summer slide,” where kids lose critical literacy skills during the break from school.

Kickoff Party Fun

To mark the beginning of the Summer Reading Challenge, CML is throwing Kickoff Parties at all of its 22 branches. The Main Library’s party is set for Saturday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring the whole family for a day of fun activities, music, and refreshments. If you can’t make it to the Main Library, don’t worry! Each branch will be hosting its own festivities throughout the week. Check out columbuslibrary.org/events for details on your local branch’s celebration.

“We know that many students and families are still recovering from the learning disruptions of the last few years,” said CML Public Services Director Miya Reyes. “Helping them get back on track starts with books and reading. This is especially critical during the out-of-school months.”
