Columbus, Meet Your New Side Piece (It’s Pizza)

Columbus has a new obsession, and it’s saucy, crispy, and impossible to resist.

Side Piece Pies, the newest concept from LV Hospitality (the team behind Victory Lap), is officially open in the University District, and it’s already serving up serious “main character” energy.

You’ll find it cozied up right next to Victory Lap, complete with a slice window connecting the two. Yes, that means you can grab a hot, cheesy slice without leaving your bar stool. Dreams do come true.

Pizza with personality

Side Piece Pies isn’t your average grab-and-go joint. Each slice starts with a 48-hour fermented sourdough crust, house-made dunks & drizzles, and a whole lot of unapologetic attitude.

“Pizza is having its moment, and we’re ready to make our mark,” said Brockton Lane, Executive Chef of Side Piece Pies. “Bringing Side Piece Pies to the University District is just the beginning. With our unapologetic attitude and crave-worthy slices, we’re here to make Side Piece Pies Columbus’ main slice.”

The menu reads like a love letter to flavor. There’s the Pepperoni, stacked high with crispy cup pepperoni; the Sausage & Pesto, featuring savory sausage, sunflower seed pesto, and a little pepperoncini kick; the Cheese, topped with lemon-infused ricotta cream; and the White Slice, a creamy, lemon-bright combo of ricotta and mozzarella.

If you’re not in a pizza mood (which… why?), there are also buffalo wings tossed in house-made sauce and monthly rotating specials that keep things fresh. New creations, like a pancetta and caramelized shallot slice, are already in the works.

The vibe

The space itself leans moody and modern, with black tile, red lights, and the kind of low-key energy that makes it feel like your go-to neighborhood spot. Whether you’re grabbing a late-night slice or a post-class pick-me-up, it’s the kind of place you’ll find yourself coming back to—maybe too often.
