One Of The Midwest’s Best New Restaurants Is Just Outside Columbus

A Lancaster winery just landed on a “best in the Midwest” list, and it’s not hard to see why.

Rhonemus Cellars was recently named one of the best new restaurants in the region by Midwest Living, putting the Fairfield County spot alongside 12 other standouts from across the Midwest.

If you haven’t made the trip yet, it’s worth knowing what makes it stand out. The winery and restaurant sits just outside downtown Lancaster, with views over a golf course and a space that feels a little more elevated than you might expect.

The wine program is a big part of the draw.

Bottles are crafted by Nova Cadamatre, the first female Master of Wine in the U.S., using estate-grown grapes. On the food side, the menu leans into seasonal ingredients and shareable plates, making it an easy spot to settle in for a while.

In its write-up, Midwest Living pointed to the combination of “serious winemaking, thoughtful cooking, and dramatic views” as the reason it’s attracting diners from around the region.

The list itself highlights a mix of restaurants across the Midwest, from a ramen spot in Iowa City focused on slow-built broths to a vegetarian counter-service concept in Ann Arbor and a refined Mexican restaurant in South Dakota. It’s a wide range, but the common thread is places that are doing something a little more intentional with their menus.

For central Ohio, it’s a nice moment of recognition for a newer spot that’s been building a following. And for anyone looking for a low-key day trip or a different kind of dinner plan, it might be worth adding to the list.
