Later this month, the Downtown Commission will be making some big decisions in regards to some new apartments on Broad Street.
The proposal for a 13-story apartment building, located at 199-209 E. Broad Street, would require the demolition of the existing structures. Although the facade of one of the historic buildings will be incorporated into the newer building, it won’t all be saved.
The new apartment building will have 130+ apartments, including studios, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom options. There will be a five-floor parking garage as well as a retails space in the building.
Like most new apartments and mixed-use developments downtown, this new project will have quite the rooftop. The top floor will house the clubhouse and a swimming pool, where residents can hang out and relax.

Although the current building has had many stores and shops throughout the years, it’s probably most well known as being the WCOL building. It’s a shame the entire building won’t be sticking around, but it is nice to see that gorgeous facade incorporated into the new design.
The proposal will be officially presented on November 18 at the Downtown Commission meeting. To view the commission meetings in full, please click here.
