A new happy hour program encouraging COVID-19 vaccinations is kicking off on Thursday.
The Short North Alliance, Columbus Public Health, and Stonewall Columbus are working together on a new program called Vax & Relax. Free COVID-19 vaccinations will be available at Stonewall Columbus in an effort to serve 20-29 year olds, a group that has lower vaccination rates.
“Columbus Public Health is proud to join the Short North Alliance and Stonewall Columbus to bring COVID-19 vaccines to young adults where they live, work and play,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Mysheika Roberts. “Vaccines are the best tool we have to get to the other side of the pandemic. These special clinics will help us reach more people and increase our vaccination rate which help protect the entire community.”
The Vax & Relax program doesn’t require advanced registration or an appointment. The first program will take place May 20-21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. both days. Both Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer vaccines will be available. A second Vax & Relax will take place three weeks later on June 17-18, which will allow a second dose of Pfizer vaccines.
“As Central Ohio’s LGBTQIA community center, Stonewall Columbus is committed to being a community space for all,” said Densil Porteous, Executive Director of Stonewall Columbus. “We are proud to open up our space as a place where everyone in our community can safely obtain a COVID-19 vaccination.”
Participating businesses will be providing special deals for those who choose to get vaccinated during the program. For a complete list of participating businesses and full details on Vax & Relax, visit shortnorth.org/vax.
