Welcome to December, friends.
It’s the final countdown. Not only is the year coming to an end, but so is a wild decade. Ten years ago, the world was a much different place. I can’t believe we’re entering the 2020s. But before we start planning our Gatsby-themed New Year’s celebrations, we should probably focus on getting through December.
This month is going to be a busy one. There are a lot of awesome things happening around Columbus in December, including holiday events, craft markets, light shows, and more. Just in case that’s not enough to keep you busy, here are 16 super fun events you won’t want to miss this month.
All month long
Wildlight at the Columbus Zoo | Various Dates
What: Stroll around the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium as it’s illuminated by thousands of glowing lights. There will be animal counters, train rides, reindeer, and so much more. This is a must-do holiday event in Columbus.
When: Daily through January 5. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Conservatory Aglow | Various Dates
What: The conservatory has been completely transformed by light. Enjoy the exhibition of work by Dale Chihuly as well as an interactive light sculpture by Jen Lewin. Don’t forget to get a great photo for Instagram in the rainbow tunnel.
When: Daily through January 4.

Free Festive Fridays at Columbus Commons | December 6, 13, and 20th
What: ALthough the festive lights at the Columbus Commons are enough to make me bundle up and head out, there will also be celebrations throughout December on Friday nights. The Commons will be extra festive with free hot chocolate and carousel rides, as well as musicians playing holiday tunes throughout the park.
When: December 6, 13, and 20 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

CD102.5 Holiday Show featuring Silversun Pickups | December 3
What: Spend your evening listening Silversun Pickups, K.FLAY, UPSAHL, and Good Shade. Tickets are $30 and $1 from every ticket sale will be donated to CD102.5 for the Kids.
When: Tuesday, December 3 at 6 p.m.

The Kahiki at Ohio History Center | December 7
What:The Kahiki was one of Columbus’s most beloved restaurants, a mock-Tahitian experience that grew into a tiki icon. Learn about the rise and fall of The Kahiki in this staff-led talk at the Ohio History Center.
When: Saturday, December 7 from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

Winterfest 2019 | December 7
What: Head downtown for the third annual WinterFest, a celebration of giving featuring local and national musical acts, seasonal ales from hometown breweries, and favorite dishes from Columbus food trucks.
When: Saturday, December 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Village Lights 2019 | December 8
What: Visit the historic streets of German Village to discover a world of lights and holiday magic at Village Lights. Follow the luminaries from shop to shop as you begin checking off your holiday gift list. Businesses are open late with holiday specials and you’ll find festive surprises around every corner.
When: Sunday, December 8 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Holiday Beer + Ice Cream Pairing with Jeni’s | December 10
What: Join the Land-Grant brewers and Jeni’s ice cream extraordinaires for a guided tasting of Land-Grant beers with scoops of Jeni’s special Holiday 2019 Flavors. For $25, you’ll get a reserved spot, four scoops of Jeni’s ice cream, four tastings of Land-Grant beer, and a guided tasting experience.

COSI After Dark | December 12
What: Grab your friends and start your weekend early with COSI After Dark, an evening event series exclusively for adults ages 21+. This month, you can feel like a kid again as you explore the science of everyone’s favorite toys. And yes, there will be Nerf weapons.
When: Thursday, December 12 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Concert for Us | December 12
What: Join 10,000 other people for an evening of celebration and community with The Harmony Project. I went to this concert last year and I left feeling so positive and uplifted. The Concert for US will feature 1,000 voices, the 30-piece Harmony Band and Orchestra, and guest performers from TransitArts and We Amplify Voices.
When: Thursday, December 12 at 7:15 p.m.

Festivus 2019 | December 13-15
What: A Festivus for the rest of us. This year’s Festivus celebration will take place on December 13-15. Visitors shop a diverse collection of handcrafted goods at 400 West Rich & Chromedge Studios for their friends and family.

Animal Collective DJ Set at Otherworld | December 14
What: What happens when you combine an incredible group of musicians and the most unique venue in Columbus? An amazing night, that’s what. Join Animal Collective for a one-of-a-kind, intimate night at Otherworld.

Andrea Bocelli | December 14
What: Andrea Bocelli has just announced a new PBS Special celebrating his 60th birthday along with his annual tour of the United States this winter playing just a handful of cities including this performance in Columbus. What an icon!

COSI Discovery Nights: Wizard School | December 20
What: Never received your acceptance letter? Now is your chance to attend Wizard School, muggles. Bring your best robes and wands and represent your house at COSI Discovery Night. I better see you out there, Hufflepuffs. The even is 21 and up and will feature wand making, potions, care of magical creatures, and more.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra | December 26
What:Trans-Siberian Orchestra is bringing back an all new version of their original production “Christmas Eve & Other Stories”. The show hasn’t been performed in over 8 years. It’s time to rock out.

Harlem Globetrotters | December 29
What: Celebrating the special blend of basketball and entertainment that has made the Harlem Globetrotters an American icon, the 2019-20 World Tour tips off this December with two games at the Schottenstein Center showcasing the high-flying, fun, and memory-making moments the entire family will enjoy.
When: Sunday, December 29 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
