COSI After Dark

via Facebook

Everyone knows that there’s nothing that says “I’m a little bit of a dork” quite like getting hella excited to spend the evening at COSI. I don’t know if it’s a combo of interesting themes, overwhelming nostalgia, and the idea of drinking alcohol in a place you used to go as a kid, but whatever they’re doing, they’re doing it right. From Game of Thrones nights to the science behind beer, COSI After Dark has hosted some incredible nights. They still have a few night’s planned this summer, so get going!

The Wilds Safari

via Facebook

If you’re the kind of nerd that doesn’t enjoy going outside, you feel free to skip this one! But if you’re the kind of nerd who totally related to Tim from Jurassic Park and his seemingly infinite knowledge about dinosaurs, then this one may be for you. Obviously, this doesn’t involve dinosaurs. But it does involve traveling around a beautiful park surrounded by some of the world’s most majestic creatures! The open-air safari at The Wilds lasts for 2 1/2 hours and you’ll get the chance to see rhinos, giraffes, and many other rare and endangered animals roaming in large, natural settings.

Table Top Game Cafe

via Facebook

This date is perfect for when you’ve got the whole gang back together. You probably won’t have time to start a new D&D campaign, but you can scratch the itch at Table Top Game Cafe. John Glenn Astronomy Park

John Glenn Astronomy Park
via Facebook

If you’re up for a little drive, you should pack up and head down to Hocking Hills. That’s good advice any day of the week, but especially if you want to spend an evening under the stars. John Glenn Astronomy Park is such a gem and you can check out all kinds of stargazing programming available at the park. The best part is that it’s totally free.

Olentangy Caverns

via Facebook

It may not be a mysterious cave that’s really trying to pull you to the dark side, but Olentangy Caverns are still pretty darn interesting. The cavern tours only take about 40 minutes, and once you’re done spelunking around, you can grab a round of mini-golf topside. You and your date can get a tour and play mini golf for less $15 each, which is pretty decent for date night! The caverns are only open seasonally, so be sure to check the calendar before heading out.

It doesn’t matter who you are or how long you’ve been in a relationship. Sometimes, you just need a weekend away to relax and reset.

This time of year can be busy, so not everyone can afford to go away for a week-long vacation in the tropics. But there are plenty of beautiful places around Ohio that you can escape to for some much-needed R&R with your special someone.

Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls

via Facebook

The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is a great way to spend a weekend. They’ve got all kinds of boarding options, including private cabins, plus you can enjoy a huge variety of spa treatments, incredible fine dining, and nearby access to some of the most beautiful bits of nature Ohio has to offer.
Website: Inn at Cedar Falls

Hotel LeVeque

via Facebook

Hotel LeVeque is the most iconic building in the Columbus skyline. Its luxurious, art-deco-inspired interior and small, boutique feel will give you the intimate weekend away you’ve been dreaming of. Have dinner at The Keep, a modern French brasserie, or go out for drinks in the heart of downtown Columbus.
Website: Hotel Leveque

The Mohicans

via Facebook

Not everyone would call a weekend away in a treehouse romantic, but that’s probably because they’ve never been to The Mohicans. These custom-built treehouses are the perfect getaway for the adventurous couple. The treehouses vary in price, size, and decor, but all of them can be made more romantic with some special occasion additions, including rose petals, chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne.

The Villas at Gervasi Vineyard

via Facebook

The Villas is an upscale boutique inn at Gervasi Vineyard. In addition to a luxurious villa, you can also book spa packages, order wine and chocolates, or arrange a vineyard tour. If you and your boo love wine, this is most definitely the weekend getaway you’re looking for.

Ravenwood Castle

via Facebook

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city at Ravenwood Castle. Nestled in the woods of Hocking Hills, Ravenwood has a variety of cabins, cottages, and rooms within the castle available for the perfect romantic weekend. All of which have an eclectic, medieval flair. Cinderella’s Coach House is one of the most romantic rooms on the property. It is connected to the main castle but feels secluded and private.
Website: Ravenwood Castle

The Ritz Carlton

via Facebook

Nothing quite says modern elegance like the Ritz Carlton in Downtown Cleveland. Head north to this iconic hotel and spend an evening reconnecting and enjoying the city. The Ritz Carlton has several romantic packages, including the Enchanted Evening package. Prices for the package vary, but it includes deluxe accommodations, chilled champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, breakfast for two, and valet parking.
Website: Ritz Carlton.

Timbrook Guesthouse

via Facebook

Getting away doesn’t have to mean going far. The Timbrook Guesthouse in northwest Columbus will have you feeling warm and fuzzy in no time. With its tropical aesthetic and personalized attention, you’ll feel like a million bucks without having to spend a fortune. The East Wing Suite offers beautiful sunrise views and the quiet privacy you’ve been craving. So turn on the fireplace, get snuggled up, and settle in for a weekend of relaxation.

Glenlaurel Scottish Inn

via Facebook

If a private hot tub, hand-crafted artisan chocolates, and a roaring fire aren’t enough to convince you to spend the weekend at Glenlaurel, then I don’t know what would. This charming Scottish-inspired inn offers an out-of-this-world romance package. So what bang do you get for your buck? The package includes two weekend nights in your choice of luxurious accommodation, those aforementioned artisan chocolates, roses, a 6 or 7-course dinner for two by candlelight each night, and a gourmet breakfast each morning. For a little extra romance, you can add on chocolate-covered strawberries or a bottle of champagne.
Website: Glenlaurel Scottish Inn

Le Meridian Columbus, The Joseph

via Facebook

Missing the nightlife of your pre-baby years? Get a sitter for the kiddos and book the romance package at Le Meridian Columbus, The Joseph. This elegant, boutique hotel is in the heart of the Short North. Grab dinner and drinks in the hustle and bustle of downtown before heading back to the hotel to relax. Order some champagne, visit the spa, the sky’s the limit.

The Lafayette Hotel

via The Lafayette

The Lafayette Hotel in Marietta opened in 1918 and celebrates the bygone era of steamboating along the Ohio River. The hotel is named after the Revolutionary War hero (and my favorite character from Hamilton), Marquis de Lafayette, who came ashore in Marietta in 1825. The hotel offers a Romance package which includes a stay in an elegant Victorian King room with a dozen roses, champagne, and chocolate-dipped strawberries for two. More info and reservations are available here.
Website:The Lafayette Hotel

The Inn at Honey Run

via Facebook

The Inn at Honey Run has some absolutely stunning accommodations. But nothing on the property compares to the Honeycombs. These rooms are built into the earth and give off a very “Shire of Hobbiton” sort of vibe. Benefits of booking a Honeycomb stay include complimentary wine and hors-d’oeuvres in the Tarragon lounge, a patio with beautiful hillside views, a gas fireplace, a private entrance, and more. Rates vary.
Website: The Inn at Honey Run

Nomad Ridge at The Wilds

via The Wilds

It’s always been a dream of mine to go on safari in Africa, but that’s not exactly practical for a long weekend. If you’re dreaming of a similar trip, you’ll be excited to learn that you and your special someone can stay at The Wilds in Cumberland. At Nomad Ridge, guests are invited to stay overnight in a cozy, romantic yurt. Each yurt comes with its own private deck in the pasture areas of The Wilds. Take in views of animals from rhinos to red-tail hawks and enjoy the splendor and beauty of nature. Overnight packages include an open-air safari tour, dinner and breakfast for two, and a 24-hour concierge service.
Website: Nomad Ridge at The Wilds

The Lakehouse Inn & Winery

via Facebook

The Lakehouse Inn in Geneva-on-the-Lake is quite possibly one of the most romantic locations you can find in Ohio. The Inn offers a variety of beautiful rooms and you can customize your stay by adding the Romance Package, which includes a bedside dessert cart with handcrafted locally made delectables, a bottle of chilled sparkling wine, rose petals & candles, plush robes to use during your stay. You can view all of the packages available here.

8 Date Ideas That Will Keep Your Heart Warm All Winter Long https://www.columbusnavigator.com/winter-date-ideas-columbus/ Wed, 08 Jan 2025 04:05:18 +0000 https://www.columbusnavigator.com/?p=24266 It's cold outside, but that doesn't mean your dating life can't be spicy.

The post 8 Date Ideas That Will Keep Your Heart Warm All Winter Long appeared first on Columbus Navigator.

Winter isn’t always the most fun, but it can be a whole lot nicer with someone special to snuggle up with.

Whether you’re casually dating, just starting out in a new relationship, or stepping out with your long-term significant other, dating in the winter can be a bit of a nightmare. It’s cold, you’re pretty limited on types of dates, and it gets dark at like 4:30.

But don’t worry. I might be a boring married lady now, but I still remember how to plan a super romantic night out. If you’ve been stuck in a rut or you can’t think of anything to do now that it’s below freezing, have no fear. Here are 8 super sweet date ideas that will keep you warm and toasty this winter.

Take a stroll around the Columbus Museum of Art.

I know what you’re thinking. “Chelsea, you always put the Columbus Museum of Art on date lists.” Guilty. But I won’t apologize. It’s literally one of the best places to plan a beautiful date in the city. You don’t have to worry about the weather outside because you’ll be perfectly comfortable staring at gorgeous art in a climate-controlled setting. Plus, if you’re feeling a little skint, you can check out the museum for free on Sundays. Seriously, what’s not to love?

Attend a Winter Festival or Event

columbus brew festival
via Facebook

Fill up those frosty weekends by checking out the winter festivals and events happening in Central Ohio. Whether it’s a syrupy celebration, a winter beer festival, or a themed event at a local venue, participating in the city’s winter festivities can turn an ordinary date night into a memorable experience.

Go ice skating.

If the weather is cooperating, you can always go ice skating outdoors. But since this is Ohio, let’s plan for the inevitable. Ice skating is always fun, even when you’re not great at it. Head up to Dublin’s Riverside Crossing Park to check out the outdoor ice skating rink. Admission is $12 and includes your skate rentals.

Enjoy a coffee date

Casual coffee dates are honestly my favorite winter dates. You get to drink something that literally warms you up, plus oversized sweaters and coffee shops are made for each other. We have some very cozy coffee shops around Columbus, so pick your poison and have a wonderful date night.

Have a fancy dinner.

You can always pair this one with just about anything else on this list, or you can just go all in on dinner. It doesn’t matter what your date is craving. Somewhere in this food-obsessed city, you will find the perfect place for a romantic meal. Here are our suggestions for fine-dining around town.

Fun and games should always be invited to the party.

From axe throwing to bowling, there are plenty of ways to get a little competitive on date night. After all, nothing says “bonding” like trying to be better at things than each other.

Take a Scenic Winter Hike Together

Bundle up and embark on a winter hike through one of Columbus’s scenic trails. Or, if you’re up for another adventure, hit the road down to Hocking Hills. The snowy landscapes provide a serene backdrop for a leisurely stroll or a more adventurous trek. If you’re staying closer to home, places like Highbanks Metro Park or the trails along the Scioto Mile offer picturesque winter scenes.

Forget going out. Plan a staycation instead.

If you wanna enjoy some one-on-one time, but you don’t have the budget to jet off to the beach, you should seriously consider a staycation. Impressive boutique hotels are great ways to experience our city in a way you may not have before. If you’re willing to take a little road trip, you can always head out on one of these amazing romantic getaways.

Get planning that perfect date, y’all.

6 Hallmark-Inspired Holiday Dates Around Columbus https://www.columbusnavigator.com/5-hallmark-inspired-holiday-dates-around-columbus/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 05:35:56 +0000 https://www.columbusnavigator.com/?p=57125 These dates are cheesy but also kind of awesome. Embrace your inner Hallmark fan this holiday season, my friends.

The post 6 Hallmark-Inspired Holiday Dates Around Columbus appeared first on Columbus Navigator.

When it comes to corny holiday vibes, no one has cornered the market quite like Hallmark.

While other genres of movies and television are consistently criticized for lacking ingenuity, cheesy holiday movies have only become more popular. While the movies may be full of walking, talking, breathing stereotypes and plots that can be predicted by the title alone, that predictability is exactly what draws in viewers stressed out by the holiday season.

Yes, they are cheesy.

Yes, they follow a very basic formula.

But guess what?

Sometimes that’s all we’re looking for. So if you’re looking to inject a little bit of that fairytale romance into your date nights this holiday season, we’ve got some suggestions that will leave you feeling like royalty.

Have a Holiday Bake-Off

Photo by Hannah Busing on Unsplash

You’ll want to start this date night by heading to your favorite local grocery store. Don’t forget to look cute just in case you run into your awful ex while you’re there. Once you’ve grabbed the goods, which should definitely include extra flour for throwing romantically, it’s time to head home to your amazing apartment/cottage/house that you shouldn’t be able to afford on your salary and get baking.

Cozy up in an Igloo for a romantic dinner under the clouds… I mean stars.

Photo by Steve Brady, courtesy of Easton.

Igloo dining became super popular in the early days of the pandemic when we were all yearning to be dining outside of our homes but not quite inside a restaurant. But this plastic paradise seems like it might be here for the long haul and, let’s be honest, it’s very Hallmarky. From the romantically decorated interiors, complete with warm blankets and twinkling lights, it’s the perfect place for a cold-weather date. You can pair this with basically any other activity on this list for a super-sized cheesy date night.

Go ice skating

According to Hallmark Christmas movies, ice skating is one of the most romantic dates around. Don’t worry if you aren’t coordinated and you’re worried about falling down because it will totally make for a super romantic moment when your partner helps you up, pulls you in for a kiss, then takes you by the hand for a spin on the ice. Never mind the fact that you might have to go home and ice your ankle! In all seriousness, ice skating is a lot of fun and there are plenty of great places where you can take a spin. Just be careful!

Take a stroll through the twinkling holiday lights

via Facebook

There are two very rom-com options for walking around to look at the holiday lights. First up, you can head to some of the more urban light displays like the Columbus Commons or the Scioto Mile for those glamorous city vibes. If you’re looking for more of a lumberjack vibe, you can head out to the Metro Parks where you’ll find some of the city’s best parks decorated for the holidays. If you pick this option and you don’t end up in at least one romantic snowball fight, you’re doing this all wrong.

Volunteer together at a local charity

Hallmark movies are all about feel-good moments and there’s nothing that will make you feel better than helping out your fellow humans. There are some really fantastic charities in Columbus that could all use a helping hand this time of year, so pick whichever one speaks to you the most, grab your boo, and go do something good.

Head out of town for a romantic weekend getaway

Your buck goes a long way at German Village Coffee Shop. This is my favorite breakfast hang in the city and it will become yours too once you see the cheap prices, the delicious bacon, and get served by the marvelous staff.

See a movie at Drexel Theatre

Did you know that Drexel Theatre in Bexley offers discounted prices if you go for a matinee show? With $10 tickets, you’ll come in just under budget.

Take a stroll through the Book Loft.

If you’re into literature, you need to head to The Book Loft in German Village. It’s 32 rooms of books, stacked to the ceiling and in every nook & cranny. It doesn’t cost anything to look around, but we’re sure you could find something dope for less than $25. Pro tip: Don’t separate from your date unless you want to spend 45 minutes trying to find one another.

Get artsy on Sundays at the Columbus Museum of Art.

I know what you’re thinking. “How does this lady think I can afford a trip to a fancy museum on a ramen budget?” Don’t worry! CMA is completely free on Sundays. This is a great option to pair with one of the other dates on this list if you want to have a whole day full of love.

Snuggle up at an outdoor movie.

via Facebook

From May through September, there are dozens and dozens of outdoor movies showing all around Columbus. The movies range from animated films to blockbuster hits. Easton has a summer movie series that’s free for all.

Head to the Drive-In Movie Theater.

via South Drive-In Facebook

There’s nothing better than hooking a speaker that’s older than you are onto your car window, slipping your arm around your sweetheart, and watching a movie at South Drive-In. Tickets are $12 per person but you can bring in outside food and drink if you’d like.

Stroll through the Short North during Gallery Hop.

The first Saturday of every month makes for a great cheap date. Short North’s Gallery Hop is a great way to spend an evening. Grab a drink and then start strolling. There are shops, bars, restaurants, art galleries, and more that all welcome the influx of foot traffic during Gallery Hop.

Every second Friday of the month, Franklinton invites you and your date to check out the best art, food, entertainment, and more that their community has to offer. Galleries and other businesses in Franklinton host this art crawl, and it’s free and open to the public.

Go for a romantic hike at Scioto Audubon Metro Park.

Scioto Audubon Metro Park is one of my favorite parks in the city. There are wooded trails, a gorgeous little boardwalk over some wetlands, and amazing views of the city. Want to bring your pup along? No problem! There is even a great dog park. The best part is it’s all free.

Have a picnic at a park.

If sitting down at the park is more your speed, pack a basket, throw in some pb&j sandwiches, and grab a blanket. Columbus and the surrounding suburbs have beautiful parks. Some, like the Topiary Garden, Schiller Park, Frank Fetch Park, and the Columbus Commons are nestled throughout downtown. Others like Inniswood Metro Garden, Battelle Darby, and Antrim Park are a little bit of a drive. All of them are worth the time and make the perfect setting for a picnic date.

Hop on the COTA Bus and head to the Zoo.

via Facebook

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is great for an all-day date. If you take the COTA bus, not only will you save on gas, you’ll also save on admission. The bus fare is $2 each way and you will receive admission to the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium for just $5. The zoo deal is only available from May-September.

Go for a swim at Alum Creek State Park.

via Alum Creek State Park Facebook

Obviously, this only applies in warmer weather, but a dip at Alum Creek State Park could be the perfect date. The beach at the park has volleyball nets, grills, and beach vendors! The beach is open during daylight hours only. Be sure to check water quality alerts before you start splashing.

Explore Hayden Falls in Dublin.

Nothing quite says “romance” like a roaring waterfall. Which is why you should hike back to Hayden Falls in Dublin for a date that will leave you both feeling lovey-dovey. Want to explore some waterfalls a little further away? Good because Ohio some beautiful ones out there just waiting for you.

Spend the day at Olentangy Caverns.

This one may be at the top of the $25 budget, but it’s so beautiful. Olentangy Caverns is a completely unique outdoor experience in Columbus. For $11.95 per person, you can take a self-guided tour through beautiful underground caves that were formed millions of years ago. If you have a little extra pocket change, consider doing the animal encounter for $4.50 where you can pet deer, goats, and Zubu cows!

Tour some of Columbus’ ancient earthworks.

An aerial shot of Shrum Mound, via Wikimedia Commons.

Did you know that Ohio was home to several ancient cultures? Right here in Columbus, you can visit Shrum Mound for free. While an ancient burial mound might not scream “perfect date”, it’s a great place to experience the history of Ohio and learn about those who lived here before us.

Visit the Bison at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park.

If your date is an animal lover, then this is sure to impress. The herd of Bison that live at Darby Park are stunning. There are also beautiful trails and quiet wooded areas all throughout the park. Pair with a picnic and you’ve got one heck of a free date.

Take a mini-road trip to the John Glenn Astronomy Park.

Nothing says romance quite like a night gazing up at the stars. There’s literally nowhere better to do that than the John Glenn Astronomy Park. It’s open every day of the year and is free to visit!

Pick something sweet together at Lynd Fruit Farm.

Show off your pinball wizard skills at 16-Bit

via Facebook

If you have any money left over from your Dirty Frank’s date, you should definitely head next door to 16-Bit Bar+Arcade. As long as you’re drinking, you can play almost all of the arcade games for free.

Spend an afternoon on the ice.

Noon Skate at OhioHealth Chiller Easton offers $4 skate rental and $8 admission. If you’re looking for a Friday night date, Chiller also hosts Friday Night Melt Down, where you can ice skate under the disco lights from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. It’s slightly over budget at $18 per person, but it does include your ice skate rental.

Take a day trip and explore

There are so many interesting things to see around Columbus. From weird roadside attractions to cool public art installations. Throw that $25 in your gas tank and see where the road takes you!

Walk dogs at Franklin County Dog Shelter.

Want to have fun and feel great about yourselves while you’re out for date night? Volunteer to walk pups at the Franklin County Dog Shelter! You’ll have to do volunteer training first, so this isn’t a date you can choose on a whim, but you will be rewarded for your work with puppy kisses!

Start your Saturday date day off right at a local Farmer’s Market

via Easton Town Center Facebook

Planning on cooking a romantic dinner? Or perhaps you’re just in the market for some handcrafted, local wares. Either way, spending your Saturday morning at a farmer’s market can make for a pretty romantic date. Not sure if your neighborhood has a farmer’s market? Here is a list of some of the best ones around the city.

Grab your boo and pop some tags.

You never know what treasures might await you during a day of thrifting in Columbus. From kitchenware to sweet threads to old books and movies you didn’t even realize you missed, there are hours of fun just waiting to be had at the thrift store.

Get romantic and cook dinner for your date.

If you didn’t get all the ingredients you need at the farmer’s market, you can hit up one of Columbus’ best local grocery stores. $25 can go a long way if you know what to look for!

Open Barn Day at Sunrise Sanctuary

via Sunrise Sanctuary Facebook

One day each month (until November), Sunrise Sanctuary offers Open Barn Day. You and your date can head to the farm to get up close and personal with some of the cutest animals around. But don’t dress too fancy! Sunrise Sanctuary asks that guests wear close-toed shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty. Admission is $10 for adults. Times vary so be sure to check their website before heading out.

Grill And Chill At A Metro Park.

If you prefer picnic tables to actual picnics, find your local park, grab some meat & veggies, and start grilling. One of my favorite parks to cook out at is Blendon Woods Metro Park. There are grills, picnic tables, beautiful trails, and even a frisbee golf course!

There’s nothing like summer love.

The days are long and warm (okay, they can also be straight up hot) and it’s the perfect season to get out and enjoy the city with your partner. From arts to adventure, Columbus offers more than a few ways to impress your sweetheart.

But sometimes, when your partner asks you the dreaded question, “What are we doing tonight?” your mind just blanks. If you feel your palms getting sweaty at the mere thought of having to plan an epic date, don’t worry. You’re not alone. This list was made for that moment.

Outdoor Theater in Schiller Park- Grab a blanket and a bottle of wine and head over to Schiller Park in historic German Village. Actors’ Theatre puts on a variety of shows each summer and you can attend for free.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium- The zoo is one of my favorite places to aimlessly stroll. Summer is the perfect time of year to go because the baby animals of the spring can be spotted frolicking and generally being adorable. If you want to skip the drive, you and your date can enjoy some killer conversation while the COTA bus delivers you to the zoo. Not only will you escape the parking fee, but you’ll also receive discounted admission to the zoo.

Outdoor Movies- A lot of these summer date suggestions involve a blanket, so you might as well invest in one now. Treat your sweets to a night with the stars at one of the many outdoor summer movie events around town, from 90s throwback PG classics to films perfect for those mythical “grown-ups”. The most unique summer movie series is at Zoombezi Bay, where you can enjoy a film while floating in the wave pool.

Summer Concerts- I’m about to lay a little dating wisdom on you folks. What’s more romantic than holding hands, swaying back to a little rock n’ roll? Spontaneously asking your date for a dance at a dope concert. Live music is such a special shared experience and you can catch a variety of acts around town nearly every weekend, or class it up with the Columbus Symphony at the Columbus Commons. Your call.

Clippers Game- Take me out to the ballgame, y’all. Most Columbusites are more than happy to ring their bell for the Clippers, especially on Dime a Dog Night. Huntington Park runs all sorts of specials throughout the summer including celebrity visitors. Stars, they’re just like us!

Spend a day at the beach- Have you been dying to show off that Dad bod you’ve been cultivating all year? Spend the day in a local swimming hole. Alum Creek Beach is a great place to spend the day relaxing in the sun. Fair warning: You can play “sand” volleyball here, but I put sand in quotations because it’s more like very small rocks.

Columbus Crew Game- Nothing quite says “I Love You” like screaming at the top of your lungs in the Nordecke. Not only can you support our local MLS team (#savedthecrew) you can also support the local businesses that will fill the concourse in the new stadium. Plus, Lower.com Field is a great place for date night, with stunning views of Columbus.

Columbus Museum of Art- CMA is the perfect rainy-day date. And since we live in Ohio, we know there will be rain. Admission to the museum is super affordable, but if you’re looking for a free date night activity, you can always visit for no cost on Sundays.

Canoeing at Trapper John’s- Canoeing isn’t just romantic, it’s real life team building. Synchronize those paddles all the way to a happy relationship on one of the many canoe tours offered at Trapper John’s.

Cool off at one of these swimming holes- Ohio has some genuinely beautiful swimming holes, specifically quarries. You can enjoy the clear, cool waters, which are perfect for the notoriously hot late-summer days. Pack some towels and a picnic and spend a romantic afternoon soaking up the sun.

Zoombezi Bay- What’s that I hear? I think it’s the gentle call of Croctail Creek, the 21+ lazy river at Zoombezi Bay. Grab a drink with an umbrella, hop in an intertube, and float your freakin’ day away.

Take to the roof- The rooftop movement is in full swing here in Columbus. From Goodale Station to Lincoln Social and basically everywhere in between, you can view the city from a rooftop with a cold drink in your hand all day, every day.

U-Pick farm date- Break out those cowboy boots and dust off that Stetson: it’s time for a farm date. Just kidding… you can wear whatever you want (within reason) to pick your own goodies. Depending on the time of the year, you can pick all sorts of wonderful things here in central Ohio. Berries, apples, lavender, oh my!

Picnic at metro park- There are 3 key items in order to achieve the perfect picnic: Good wine, great cheese, and the perfect person to picnic with. You wouldn’t be working so hard to plan this killer date if you didn’t have the perfect person, so now you just have to find the right wine/cheese combo.

Volunteer together- Give back to your community and spend time with your special someone all at once while volunteering. Columbus is such an amazing place to live because of the people here. It’s rewarding AF to take a moment to do something for others.

Drive-In theatre- Cruise on down S High St. to my favorite drive-in theater! I spent many a summer night in my youth at South Drive-In, eating popcorn and getting eaten by mosquitoes. But with a little bug spray, you and your love can spend the evening snuggled up at a double feature.

Cool off with an Ice Cream cone- Okay, it doesn’t have to be a cone. It’s your life, live your truth! Columbus is what I affectionately call the ice cream capital of the world. You can hit up a different ice cream shop every day of the week and get everything from international frozen treats to traditional soft serve. An ice cream paradise, if you will. You get bonus romance points if you share a few scoops.

Take a road trip- There are so many cool things to see all around this state that it would be a shame if your summer didn’t involve a road trip! You can see some castles. You can cool off near a waterfall. If you’re feeling extra romantic, you can plan a whole trip around your lovey-dovey vibe. Just don’t forget to make the perfect road trip playlist.

Stargazing- Columbus may not be the perfect place to gaze into the cosmos, but luckily, a super amazing facility is nearby in the Hocking Hills. The John Glenn Astronomy Park opened a couple of summers ago and offers all kinds of stargazing opportunities. The park is open 24/7, perfect for you night owls out there.

Hit up the farmers market and then cook a romantic meal- This idea may be straight out of a rom-com, but it’s so heartwarming. Pick a farmers’ market in your area, shop for some locally sourced ingredients, and then cook a romantic lunch or dinner together. It’s classic, it’s simple, it’s perfect. If the cooking doesn’t go according to plan, you can always pick something else on this list. Life is about the journey, right?
