Anthony Precourt continues wooing Austin (PSV just released a fantasy plan for a “downtown” Austin stadium that is twice as far from Austin as MAPFRE Stadium is from Columbus, and it has almost no parking), but work in Columbus to #SaveTheCrew continues.
#SaveTheCrew started “Project 2019” today, a “multi-faceted campaign aimed at ensuring the success of Columbus Crew SC in 2019 and beyond”.
The first component? A 2019 season ticket pledge drive. Taking the pledge means:
“In the case that Columbus Crew SC is sold to a local investor/operator, I pledge to purchase season tickets or a multiple match plan for the 2019 Columbus Crew SC season.”
Columbus Navigator, 2017 season ticket holders (but not 2018), have made the pledge to purchase four 2019 season tickets in the event the Crew are sold to locals.
Four tickets is a small number, and we realize that. But if every small business in Columbus that cares about the city makes a similar pledge, along with individuals who would back a locally owned team, the numbers would be worth talking about.
A season ticket drive is a call back to the Crew’s roots. In 1994, Columbus was named an MLS team after more than 12,000 Columbus area residents made deposits on season tickets.
We just need competent local ownership who want the team to succeed in Columbus.
