An Iconic Short North Gallery Is Making The Move To Franklinton

Franklinton is funky, fresh, and in demand. That’s why it is no surprise that a longtime Short North gallery is making the move.

ROY G. BIV has been a part of the Short North Community for nearly 30 years, but yesterday, they announced a big change.

“After 28 incredible years in the Short North, ROY G BIV Gallery is moving to Franklinton,” read an announcement on the gallery’s website.

The new gallery will double the previous space in the Short North, offering 2,048 square feet to show off more emerging artists.

ROY will still be open in the Short North through the end of May, but the move is scheduled for late summer or early fall. The new gallery will be located in the River and Rich Development, a mixed-use project currently in development by CASTO.

“We understand the importance art plays in Franklinton and we’re committed to making sure we do our part in keeping the neighborhood creative, vibrant and diverse,” said Brent Sobczak, President of CASTO Communities in a statement. “We believe ROY’s mission of supporting emerging artists through exhibition opportunities and education is aligned with our goals of bringing more art to the already bustling neighborhood.”

The gallery is hoping to partner with more arts organizations like Ft. Hayes, Wild Goose Creative, Riffe Gallery, and those already working in Franklinton like 400 West Rich and the Columbus Idea Foundry.

“We’re very excited to share our plans with you, and will continue to provide details as they emerge,” said a statement on their website. “2018 will be a monumental year for ROY and our contribution to the arts. ROY’s approach to exhibiting innovative, thought-provoking and challenging artwork will continue in Franklinton.”
