The Rachael Ray Foundation Just Donated $50K To Columbus Humane

Columbus Humane is on a mission to raise money to update and renovate their main animal shelter, and they just got a little help from someone special.

The Rachael Ray Foundation has stepped up to the plate and given Columbus Humane a $50,000 grant.

“To be recognized nationally is a testament to the innovative and forward thinking work we are doing right here in Columbus. We are extremely grateful to the foundation for the gift and the support,” said Rachel Finney, CEO of Columbus Humane.

The animal shelter and adoption center has been in need of a renovation ever since a flood in 2016, and the funds they hope to raise will be benefiting thousands of animals in the Central Ohio area.

“The flood in December 2016 really forced our hand to move forward because it destroyed our veterinary hospital and part of the building,” said Kerry Shaw, Director of Development and Communications at Columbus Humane. “It was devastating but also gave us the opportunity to rectify some of the needs of our current space.”

The updates to the facility won’t just be physical. They will have an emotional impact on the animals as well. The new design will allow more areas for animal enrichment as well as increased space for animal adoptions to take place.

“This generous gift from the Rachael Ray Foundation is so impactful. It pushes us to 70% of our fundraising goal of $3 million and acts as a matching opportunity for gifts being made up to $50,000,” said Shaw.

The renovated facility will be bright, airy, and open. Mode Architects has been brought in to design the upgrades, with an expected completion date in October 2018. When all is said and done, Columbus Humane’s renovations and changes will transform it into a state-of-the-art facility, giving the non-profit the ability to assist more animals and people in the community than ever before.

With a little help from the community they serve, Columbus Humane is hoping to meet their fundraising goal. “We are in the midst of a capital campaign to raise funds for an incredible and much-needed renovation to our facility, which will enable us to serve the pets and people in our community (that’s YOU) in the best possible way,” said Columbus Humane on Facebook. “Please help us maximize this grant by making a gift, large or small.”
