I know it seems like it’s way too early to be talking about the holidays, but Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before you know it.
As COVID-19 cases soar around the state and country, we’re all trying to figure out what the holiday season will look like this year. We aren’t going to be able to do our traditional gatherings or attend our usual holiday events, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still fun to be had out there.
Ever year, the Ohio History Connection hosts a Dickens-themed Christmas experience. Typically, that means that guests can come to Ohio Village to see what a 19th century Christmas looked liked. This year, the event is back, safely for Ohioans to visit.
Starting December 5, Ohio History Connection is putting on the Dickens of a Drive-Thru event. Visitors will turn the radio in their care to a specific station where they’ll hear Christmas songs performed by the Ohio Village Singers while they drive through a bustling village full of joyful townsfolk.
You’ll see villagers dancing and singing, decorating trees, shopping for presents, and more. Along the way, visitors will also spot 19th-century characters including St. Nick and Krampus, the Ghost of Christmas Present, Jacob Marley, Scrooge, and Santa Claus.
“Ohio History Connection has continued to shift its favorite annual programs in a way that puts safety first for our visitors and staff,” says Ohio History Connection spokesperson Emmy Beach. “We are thrilled to offer Dickens of a Christmas this year as a drive-thru experience, which will bring the same holiday joy in a 19th century way to Ohio families this December.”
