Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has created an online portal that makes navigating the State’s many hiking trails the easiest it’s ever been.
State Sen. Steve Wilson (R-Mainville) and ODNR Director Jim Zehringer announced the website on Thursday. The portal collects and consolidates trail data and includes an interactive trail map as well as events around the state.
“Whether you are planning a thru-hike of Buckeye Trail or simply looking for a nice place to enjoy an afternoon walk or bike-ride, this new resource provides a wealth of valuable information,” Wilson said in a statement.
“I appreciate the partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and their willingness to enhance our efforts to positively impact trail development in our state.”
Honored that local author Andy "Capitan Blue" Niekamp – who completed the first solo thru-hike of the 1,444 mile Buckeye Trail – joined us yesterday for a meeting of the Ohio Legislative Trails Caucus. pic.twitter.com/60j7mQNOb9

The Ohio Legislative Trails Caucus is co-chaired by Wilson and they plan to increase efforts around the state for better maintained public trails and to open up access for visitors. There is even a pending resolution sponsored by Wilson to designate 2018 as Ohio’s Year of the Trails.
