Nina West Singing A Duet With Kermit The Frog Will Put A Huge Smile On Your Face

Over the weekend, local icon Nina West presented an epic Pride celebration for Disney+.

Disney+’s This Is Me: Pride Celebration Spectacular saw tons of pop culture figures join Nina West on a virtual stage for a wonderful Pride-focused evening. Featured performances throughout the night showcased Disney songs reinterpreted through an LGBTQ+ lens and it was epic.

West was joined by Hayley Kiyoko, Toddrick Hall, Alex Newell, DCappella, Frankie A. Rodriguez and Joe Serafini, Jackie Cox, Jesse James Keitel, Michael James Scott, and Kermit the Frog.

The whole special was inspiring and wonderful, but the highlight of the evening came when Nina took the stage with the one-and-only Kermit the Frog to perform “Rainbow Connection” as the show’s closing act.

Speaking to EW, Nina West shared the importance of feeling connected to Disney classics as a kid and the importance of making kids today feel that same level of connection and visibility.

“We’re reimagining these songs that are in our classic Disney canon and giving them meaning that many of us have ascribed to them anyway,” West told EW. “When you hear ‘A Whole New World’ sung by two people of the same gender, it’s powerful, or when you have someone who identifies as a woman singing a song like ‘Kiss the Girl,’ that’s magic, and it allows us to see ourselves in these stories.”

If you didn’t get the chance to watch the special, you’re in luck. Not only can you view it on Disney+, you can also check out the full celebration on Youtube.

Nina West is a straight up gem and Columbus is so lucky to have her. If we could all be 10% as passionate, kind, and caring as Nina, this city would be the most magical place.
