Hocking Hills Is Getting A Massive, Lodge-Style Visitors Center

Ohio’s best state park is getting a beautiful, brand new visitors center.

Hocking Hills State Park is Ohio’s most visited state park, attracting millions of visitors each year. There are stunning waterfalls, beautiful caves and picturesque, Instagrammable views around every corner.

It’s no surprise that the state of Ohio wants to make it even more appealing to visitors. “Hocking Hills is Ohio’s flagship state park, and it continues to receive international acclaim as one of our greatest natural treasures,” ODNR Director James Zehringer said in a press release.

The new facility will be built on the site of the current visitors center at Old Man’s Cave. The center will focus on hiker and visitor safety at the park, with training, equipment, and other information available.

“Safety remains our top priority, so being able to offer the public a one-on-one interaction with ODNR trained staff allows us to enhance the experience and safety of our guests as we showcase what the region has to offer,” said Zehringer.

The new facility will feature an info station with park staff available to answer questions, a gift store that sells hiking equipment, and access to educational material to help visitors get ready to go out in the park. There will even be multiple indoor flush restrooms. Pure luxury!

The Ohio State Park system is a great asset for Ohioans. The parks are completely free and offer families and friends alike a place to go hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, or camping, as well as take part in other fun, outdoor activities. Ohio is one of just 7 other states that offer free state park facilities.

Construction on the 11,500 square foot new facility will begin during Winter 2018.

I can just see the awkward family photos on that balcony already! Who’s excited?
