The New Dublin Library Is Dazzling

Columbus Metropolitan Library has been on a massive building spree in recent years, creating beautiful new building after beautiful new building.

Ten libraries have been rebuilt or renovated as phase 1 of a library the library’s capital improvement plan, and the new Dublin branch will go down as the most expensive at a cost of $21 million. Phase 2 will see rebuilds and renovations for branches in Gahanna, Hilltop, Karl Road and Reynoldsburg.

It’s not easy to rank the results, but the new Dublin branch has to be near the top. Designed by NBBJ, the Dublin library has doubled in size from the old branch (41k sq ft vs. 20k) and it seems as if everyone has put aside some initial controversy over the modern design. I think this is going to age beautifully, and the Dublin community just took a step up in the world.

A three story parking garage is a welcome sight, and an interesting architectural achievement of its own.

The entire library feels open and airy with glass walls and great views everywhere you look.

The aquarium is a hot spot.

So cozy!

If you’re a library lover, even if you don’t live in Dublin, I highly recommend a visit. It’ll remind you just how wonderful libraries can be.
