Local BBQ restaurant set to open in Columbus’ Franklinton area
Inspired by the success of Hot Chicken Takeover, Red Door BBQ plans on providing ribs, pork, and brisket in both southern and northern barbecue styles.
Owner Bill Konves and head chef Aaron Channels plan to open the carryout restaurant at 177 S. Cypress Avenue in Franklinton.
The announcement to undertake the fledgling barbecue enterprise comes just as Columbus begins to prioritize its focus on creating an urban creative district within the historical neighborhood.
Founded in 1797, Franklinton was the original settlement in Franklin County. Currently though, 60% of its residents live below the poverty line, with a stark 56% lacking a high school diploma.
On their facebook page, the owners make an impassioned call for action, asking for anyone concerned about improving their community to join them in helping the Franklinton neighborhood. Portions of their proceeds go the local church, Crossroads Ministries, which they use to fund their own community betterment projects.
In an effort to draw attention to their neighborhood and their business, they’ve even gone so far as to upload video, calling out Mayor Ginther and challenging him to come visit their establishment for lunch.
Opening hours will be at 11 am and the doors close when the food runs dry.
Red Door isn’t yet open but they currently offer catering services. Check out their Facebook page for details.
