National Veterans Memorial To Open This October

The highly anticipated National Veterans Memorial and Museum has got an official open date.

The facility will host a grand opening event on October 27, celebrating this architecturally stunning and one of a kind memorial. The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, with General Colin Powell delivering the keynote address.

There will also be appearances by distinguished veterans, military leadership, and performances by the men and women from all five of the branches of the U.S. Military.

Immediately after the dedication, the museum will open to the public and remain open until 9 p.m., ensuring that all visitors get a chance to take a peek inside and experience the various exhibits.

The memorial, which was a passion project for Senator John Glenn, is the result of millions of dollars and countless hours of work by the community and both local and national organizations.

“This project was a labor of love for Senator Glenn and the veterans committee he convened to help make it a reality,” said Guy Worley, President and CEO of the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation, the developer behind the memorial. “With the involvement of General Colin Powell at the board level and Lieutenant General Michael Ferriter serving the role of CEO, we are confident that this institution will fulfill its mission of appropriately honoring the nearly 21 million veterans of the military while educating future generations of the role they played in protecting our freedom”
