September is National Honey Month, which makes it the perfect time to celebrate at one of central Ohio’s best festivals: The Lithopolis Honeyfest.

Indulge yourself with sweet treats, experience a “bee beard,” or just do your part to help save the bees at this year’s festival, which runs September 7-8 in the heart of Lithopolis. Honey bee awareness has never been so important. If you’re unfamiliar, let me lay some statistics on you.
Whether you like bees or not, your life as you know it depends on them. 1 in 3 bites of food you eat every day are available to you thanks to the pollination of honey bees. These fuzzy, buzzy creatures are responsible for 80% of worldwide pollination and 70 out of 100 human food crops are pollinated by bees.
The festival was launched in 2007 with a simple goal: to preserve apiculture, aka the practice of keeping bees. The community-wide festival is held over the course of two days and the village of Lithopolis has designated the Saturday after the first Monday in September as Lithopolis Honeyfest Day.
The festival is open to all and provides attendees the chance to get up close and personal with bees, as well as the opportunity to learn about beekeeping and it’s importance. In addition to bees and honey, there is also art, music, food, fun, and games.

Some fun activities at Honeyfest include:
-
Honey Competition & Tasting
Honey Bake-Off
Mead & Wine Tastings
Honey Beer Garden
Honeyfest Queen Pageant
Bee Beard & Beekeeping Demonstrations
The 2018 Lithopolis Honeyfest is open on Friday, September 7 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival offers free admission, parking, and shuttle rides. For more info on the festival, please visit their website here.
