Does Jack Hanna Want To Change Ohio’s State Animal?

Since 1988, the White Tailed Deer has been the State Animal of Ohio. But Jungle Jack Hannah may be calling for a big change.

Along with Experience Columbus, Homage, The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and The Wilds, Jack Hanna wants to hand the title of State Animal over to… the Giraffe. According to Hanna, giraffes grazed here in Ohio more than 300 years ago.

Of course, the release of this video so close to April Fool’s Day has us here at Columbus Navigator a tiny bit suspicious. Full disclosure, however, I did personally sign the petition. I truly hope this isn’t a prank because having the giraffe as our state animal would be absolutely amazing.

The aforementioned petition, available here, asks for your support as Ohioans to make this change happen. According to Homage, signing the petition gets you a giraffe bumper sticker and button, while purchasing an Homage original shirt comes with a buy one entry, get one free coupon from The Wilds. Homage also encourages you to share the campaign via social media with the hashtag #aheadabovetherest, which of course, people are taking in stride.

We reached out to Homage for a comment, but we did not receive one in time for publication. We will update this post if that changes.

What do you think? Is this an early April Fools Day Prank? Or will our State Animal be a head above the rest?Tell us about it on Facebook or Twitter
