How To Take The Perfect Self-Isolation Vacation In Hocking Hills

When I used to dream about spending a week in isolation, I nearly always envisioned myself curled up in a cozy cabin in Hocking Hills.

And honestly, that daydream hasn’t changed much. Even though we’ve been self-isolating for a while now, I still imagine how marvelous it would be to start my morning with a lovely hike and end my day around a firepit.

When you think about it, a trip to Hocking Hills is the perfect way to have a self-isolation vacation. You’ll be staying in a cabin far away from other people, your plans will mostly include adventures in the great outdoors, and you tend to plan on being pretty self-sufficient during Hocking Hills vacays as it is.

Although Hocking Hills State Park is still closed, there are other parks in the region, as well as some outdoor activities that are open. Most cabins that are available to rent sit on significant acreage with onsite hiking, which means you can have a week almost entirely away from the rest of the world.

Cabins in Hocking Hills had been closed, but the reopened on Monday, May 4 with extra sanitization and precautions, including touch-free check-in. Those planning a trip to the region are asked to do a few things to make vacationing a little safer for everyone.

Visitors planning to cook meals at their cabins should bring their groceries to the area with them. Hocking Hills is a small community and has a limited number of grocery stores and supplies, so bringing your own goods will ensure that you have exactly what you need to cook your meals to perfection.

If you are planning on eating out while visiting, there are so many wonderful, locally-owned restaurants who could use your support. You can view a comprehensive list here. When going out into public areas, the use of face coverings and social distancing should be observed.

Although you can’t hike to Old Man’s Cave or Cedar Falls, you can hit up the trails at several local parks, including Lake Logan State Park, Clear Creek Metro Park, Lake Hope State Park, Tar Hollow State Park, and Wayne National Forest.
