A Road Trip To Haunted Mansfield Is The Perfect Way To Kick Off Spooky Season

Known as the Haunted capital of Ohio, Mansfield is the perfect destination for a spooky road trip.

Halloween season in Mansfield is kind of a big deal. There are four destinations that claim to be the most haunted in the Midwest and they draw in thrill-seekers and ghost hunters alike. Before we get to into it, let me hit you with the COVID-19 precautions.

Haunted Mansfield has implemented new procedures to keep both staff and guests as safe as possible. The procedures include thorough sanitation of all routes, temperature monitoring for staff, a socially distanced layout, online tickets, and more. Guests will wear a mask or face coverings while inside the haunted venues.

The Ohio State Reformatory is easily the most infamous site on the list. The prison was built in 1886 and it’s full of spooky spots. I can speak with experience because we visited the prison a few years ago and I was basically terrified the entire time. I’m embarrassed to say it was broad daylight and not even functioning as a haunted house at the time, but what can I say? It’s a creepy place!

When visiting, guests can have a couple of different experiences. There are guided tours of the haunted prison as well as private paranormal investigations. But if jump scares are more your thing, you can visit Escape from Blood Prison, the haunted house that runs Friday through Sunday, October 1-31.

Heading on to the Mansfield Fire Museum, visitors can schedule private paranormal investigations. Strange happenings at the museum include a fire truck side mirror that appears to move on its own, unexplained sounds, flickering lights, and shadowy figures. Guests can schedule their private paranormal investigations by calling (419) 564-5531.

Back in 1929, a gruesome murder occurred at the Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield. Ghost sightings and unexplainable occurrences have been going on ever since. The final Haunted Mansfield site is The Gill House. Home to one of the area’s founding families, visitors and volunteers at the house have witnessed footsteps, laughter, shadows, and apparitions. Tours of the house are regularly scheduled but guests can also proceed at their own risk on their paranormal investigations.
