Learn How To Become A Real Life Ghost Buster At The Ohio State Reformatory

Let’s get a little spooky, y’all.

Listen up, my little weirdos. If you have been looking to break into the ghost hunting game, you’re in luck. For the first time ever, paranormal newbies can dive headfirst into the supernatural at Ohio State Reformatory.

Expert Paranormal Investigator Sherri Brake will be offering classes this year at the prison, teaching ghost hunting techniques, how to use ghost hunting equipment, local paranormal history, and more. The classes will take place at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on May 19 and September 1. Once your class has concluded, you’ll be taken on a private ghost hunt at the Reformatory from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., giving you a chance to test out your newly acquired skills.

I had the terrifying pleasure of getting to photograph the Reformatory last year before their haunted house, and I honestly almost threw up several times. I don’t actually know whether I believe in ghosts or not, but if anywhere in the world is haunted, it’s that prison.

In order to participate in the class, you must be over the age of 13. If you want to skip the technical course and jump straight into the adventure, you can also participate in the prison’s Ghost Hunts. The Ghost Hunt Challenge starts April 14 and costs $70 for first-time hunters. Beginning April 21, Intermediate/Advanced hunts will be available to those who have participated in three or more ghost hunts, walks, or classes at a cost of $100.

For those looking for a casual, haunted stroll, the Ghost Walk is probably more your speed. Ghost Walks begin April 20 and cost $25 for adults and $20 for kids aged 13-17.

The Ohio State Reformatory is known around the world as one of the most haunted places in America. It first opened in 1896. The prison went on to house 155,000 men before closing in 1990. It’s been featured in major motion pictures (The Shawshank Redemption) and music videos. Even if you don’t see any ghosts, you’ll probably get to see Lil’ Wayne’s gold toilet in solitary confinement.

What do you say? Want to stumble around in a dark prison?
